My squad mate from Alpha Company is quick on the scene with his de-fib pack to revive me and get me back into the fight, while other Alpha squaddies have cleared the surrounding area of our mortal enemy.

In the background, an enemy Battle Walker moves by, its murderous gaze sweeping left and right, looking for victims, however, we are passed by for more interesting prey at another missile silo.

Our commander had assigned Alpha squad to capture and defend Missile Silo One, which would assist our team to board and destroy the enemy Titan which lurked overhead like an ever present shark surveying the battle scene below. Only by the missiles destroying the Titan’s deadly shields would we be able to accomplish our deadly venture to win the battle.

Suddenly, the enemy Titan’s shields were down, and with that, fresh orders for the Alpha squad – “Attack the Titan!” Acknowledging the order, we piled into our APC, and drove at a reckless pace across the battlefield to get within pod range below enemy Titan.

The pod launch was a sight to see, with six pods arcing above the Titan, to come crashing down on the upper deck. Our squad leader quickly placed a spawn beacon for those that would assuredly follow as we headed below to attack the reactor core. The destruction of the reactor consoles were the key to victory and would be vigorously defended to the death by our opposition. A running fire fight through the corridors and cargo bay seemed to go on forever, with wave after wave of defenders trying to stop us at all cost. Finally the reactor room was ours, RDX strategically placed, and with the flick of a button the reactor itself went into a destructive meltdown. At this point, it was every man for himself to abandon ship to survive, by heading for the escape doors and parachuting to safety. As I hit the ground below, I had a chance to look up and see the once mighty Titan vaporise into micro fragments. Many died in that final assault, both our brave troops as well as the valiant defenders of the enemy Titan, but in the end victory was ours… this time.

Finally, I sit back from my computer, wipe the sweat from my hands, and even though it’s late, I prepare to enter the fray for just one more game before bed, or maybe two.

In Battlefield 2142, Electronic Arts newest game in the Battlefield franchise, players choose to fight for one of two military superpowers – the European Union or the newly formed Pan Asian Coalition – in an epic battle for survival.

Armed with a devastating arsenal of hi-tech weaponry, including assault rifles, cloaking devices and sentry guns, players will also take control of the most lethal vehicles known to man. Massive Battle Walkers wage fierce combat on the ground, while futuristic aircraft rule the skies. When taking on this futuristic armour, players will need to use their wits and an arsenal of hi-tech countermeasures like EMP grenades and smart mines to level the playing field.

Epic online gameplay for up to 64 players drops gamers on the front lines as part of a formal squad, or behind the scenes in Commander Mode to direct the strategic assaults of their team mates.
For the first time in the history of the franchise, Battlefield 2142 will include a brand new game type to compliment the classic Conquest mode. The epic, new Titan mode challenges gamers to destroy the opposing army’s Titan – a massive heavily armoured, flying warship – while defending their own. To defeat a Titan, gamers must first take down its shields, board the craft and fight to its inner core before detonating the reactor from within. This genre leading gameplay innovation changes the way you play, encouraging both teamplay and strategy in explosive large-scale confrontations.

With in-game success, players increase their rank and unlock awards, including new weapons, medals and more, delivering the most comprehensive and flexible persistence in the Battlefield universe to date.

While some Battlefield enthusiasts may feel that a Battlefield game set in the future may not have been the right direction for the next progression of the franchise, in my humble opinion it seems to be flowing in the right direction. Electronic Arts and Dice wisely chose to avoid going too far into the future, instead, giving us a taste of what could be just around the corner, with weapons technology that is believable for the average gamer. Therefore if you are into the Battlefield series, or first person shooters in general, Battlefield 2142 is worth a look, so check out the demo or better yet, queue up to purchase the retail version which is due to be released on Wednesday,18th October. So what are you waiting for?
