Fremen BF2142 Season 7

Penned by the hand of Blacksok.

The Fremen are the =TOG= Battlefield 2142 GameArena ladder team, and with Season 7 drawing to a close I thought we’d look back on the season that was.

After a few weeks off, Season 7 came around fast and heavy for the Fremen with a game straight away against uK|. The guys came out strong, and with some good Squad Leading and spawn beacon placements by Maddog, the Fremen were able to get in behind uK| and try back capping them. Despite this they couldn’t get on top, and were chasing flags for most of the first round. Come Round 2 the Fremen were able to get in behind uK| again, but this time were able to push hard and cap out uK|. Despite winning the second round, it wasn’t enough to come away with the overall victory. It was a great effort from the boys in their first week back.

Their Next game was against =[PU]=. Unfortunately a lot of the guys had other commitments, but they still managed to drum up a team. Their opponents were a well drilled and experienced squad, and really took it to the Fremen hard and without mercy. =[PU]= walked off the battlefield with a powerful win.

Clan[^] were next to challenge the mighty Fremen. After their first two losses the team had regrouped, trained hard, and returned ready to put up a fight; And fight they did! The Fremen burst out with a good start and dominated the match early. But they were unable to scramble and adapt quickly to the changing flow of the game, giving Clan[^] the opportunity to steal back the win.

Some early distractions including a player disconnection slowed their start, but the guys stuck it out.Match 4 was against the guys from {REV}. Little was known about this team before the match, but the Fremen had a solid strat and went about their business. Some early distractions including a player disconnection slowed their start, but the guys stuck it out. {REV} turned out to be a quality team with some precise shooting, and outgunned our guys on the ground. Again beaten, the Fremen were still happy with the improvement in their teamwork. Lots of revives, backing each other up, and sticking to the strat. The squad was pulling together nicely.

Once again uK| were in the Fremen sights and in the first round they got out a bit slow, and were behind the 8 ball running back and forth trying to cap flags with limited success. The guys lost another first round and the moral took a bit of a hit. The Squad Leaders really stepped up and gave the boys a pep talk during the break, and the Fremen came back to dominate the second round with uK| confined to their uncap. Despite winning the half, the guys lost the match by only 5 tickets over all. It was very encouraging to see that the guys put up a much stronger fight.

For the next bout, vaRiant came into =TOG='s sights. These guys were on their game, and the Fremen simply weren’t. Not much more to say on this one, vaRiant won whilst only losing 12 of their own tickets.

the Fremen were under pressure to field a team, they only came up with the goods just before show time (even if the goods were smelling strongly of bourbon and slurring)After these early Fremen defeats, the ladder settled down as all the teams found their places in it. This gave the Fremen an opportunity to scrim against teams of equal ability. A challenge came from {SA}, and the Fremen were under pressure to field a team, they only came up with the goods just before show time (even if the goods were smelling strongly of bourbon and slurring). The guys put on a good show and were able to attack hard, capping out {SA} with 121 tickets left. The second round found the Fremen defending and were able to counter a few reach arounds, but were capped out with {SA} holding 42 tickets by the end. Fremen had their first win of the season with a margin of 79 to spare. Unfortunately {SA} had a member who used an unfair advantage, and hence {SA} officially forfeited the match.

After a somewhat hollow victory the Fremen were out to prove that they could mix it up with the competition. L*o*C were next, but unfortunately they were unable to field a full strength team and had to play short. It was an armour heavy battle all round with everyone getting the opportunity to jump in a tank and blow stuff up. Ultimately the Fremen were able to hold their flags better than L*o*C, and won in the end due to ticket bleed.

With the Fremen sitting in 8th spot on the GA Ladder, the last seed for a trip to the finals, teams were lined up to claim the position for themselves. The next contenders were -|Nm|-, who were also unable to field a full strength team. The map chosen was a Fremen favourite, with a tried and proven strategy to draw upon. Our boys walked all over their opponents this time, capping out -|Nm|- both rounds within a few minutes.

The Finals were fast approaching and the ladder became frantic with challenges, all the teams were attempting to secure that last seat. The Finals were fast approaching and the ladder became frantic with challenges, all the teams were attempting to secure that last seat. The Fremen were still holding onto 8th place on the last day before ladder lock, when a challenge was submitted. After their disappointing performance a few weeks ago, {SA} were back to fight for that last spot in the top 8. Keen to maintain their final dreams, the Fremen went into training. Similar to scenes out of Rocky; Cartech was pumping the iron, Resolve was shouting slogans at Kungfu (“Be the best you can be”, “Give 110%”, “Get to the choppa…”), Grankiller was pushing out hundreds of sit ups, and I’m sure I saw Maddog at some stage running up the stairs of a church to throw his hands in the air while looking to the sky and calling out to “Alchemist!!!”

When game day rolled around, the Fremen were thirsty for blood. With another solid strategy prepared, the Fremen fought a frenetic first round; Out gunning their opponents despite a few mid round player disconnections. This gave the Fremen a comfortable lead of about 150 tickets headed into round 2. Viper subbed in to help out, and the guys knew that defence would be where they won or lost their trip to the finals. {SA} came out firing and got away to a good start, but the Fremen dug in and fought their way back. They took some casualties early, and many started wondering if it would cost them the match. Despite {SA} winning the round by nearly 50 tickets, the Fremen had done enough to take overall victory and secure their place in the finals for the 2nd time in 7 seasons.

=[PU]=’s armour dominated the opening round despite some heavy opposition from the Fremen, who were able to claw back and take the tightly contested church flag to initiate a ticket bleed. The Finals found the Fremen once again pitted against =[PU]=. The Fremen knew they had a challenging task ahead, made all the more difficult by internet and ping issues. But in true =TOG= fashion there was no whinging or complaining, and reserves were lined up ready to answer the call. After being beaten by =[PU]= earlier in the season, the Fremen knew that this would be a hard and gritty game. =[PU]=’s armour dominated the opening round despite some heavy opposition from the Fremen, who were able to claw back and take the tightly contested church flag to initiate a ticket bleed. Ultimately the well organised counter-attack by =[PU]= managed to recapture it, giving them a first round win with 95 tickets.

In the second round the Fremen had a similar game plan, be aggressive! They were, and after much to-ing and fro-ing the Fremen found themselves with all flags and =[PU]= confined to their own uncap. Although this final round was a strong performance, it came a little too late. =[PU]= won the second round by 26 tickets, bringing our Fremen’s season 7 to an end.

Even though they bowed out early in the finals, the Fremen returned home to the =TOG= BF2142 Division with congratulations and much fanfare; A virtual ticker tape parade was held in their honour! The Fremen had represented =TOG= well in the GA ladder, promoting themselves to the wider gaming community as fierce, fun, and honourable people.

From myself and everybody in the 2142 Division, “Thanks and Well Done Fremen!”
