  1. 147 days to go...

GOAL: Attend my first Powerlifting meet
    When: November 20th

I'm a competitor, always have been.

I've never played a friendly game, even when I was playing a friendly. There's your team and the other team, and shit was going to get real as soon as the whistle blew.

The competition coming up in November is a friendly.

  2. Civ 5 Rage Quit

For some reason I have never won Civ 5 as Egypt. This is very odd, as it was not only one of the original civs in the computer game, but it was one of the civs in the board game itself, all those years ago. I simply must have won as Egypt in other versions of the game, but when it comes to Civ 5, computer says no. Steam tells me I have 1707 hours clocked up on Civ 5, so I am frankly rather embarrassed that Egypt has eluded me thus far.

It's been a few months since I played Crusader Kings. I started one game as a Scottish Duke some time ago, and got absolutely creamed by one of my vassals. I foolishly aided my liege and took some heavy losses, allowing my vassal to pounce.

I'm intrigued by the tribal system, and intend to play a family at the head of a tribe next time. It will probably be a Caledonian or Irish dynasty, though I might try a Viking. I've got this idea of getting a Kingdom of the Isles started ...

  4. Capet Disaster Update

Further to my previous message (10 September 2015), I played the Capet dynasty through to the game's compulsory end in 1453. Because the dynasty became so widespread, there was never any danger of my line dying out. On the rare occasion when it looked like I would have no son, it was easy enough to marry my female heir to some likely Capet lad.

The game always seemed difficult. The post-Charlemagne Frankish empire was unified quickly under an emperor from the Karling dynasty, with ...

  5. Crusader Kings Northumbria Betrayal.

So my brother has Northumbria, the county thereof, which my Dad very kindly gave him out of my Patrimony. Dad was a great King of Northumbria, expanding our influence to the south, and taking over the entire kingdom of Mercia. He decided we should help one of our allies in Ireland, the Earl of Brefine. Unfortunately, during a battle to dislodge an adventurer's army there, Dad was cut off from the main force with his bodyguard and eventually fell under a hail of axe-blows. My own entourage held ...
