COD4 - Never a Dull Moment

It’s a great time to be in TOG and a great time to be in the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Division. There’s never a dull moment!

The Division has been growing rapidly in recent times, with quite a number of new recruits entering the ranks – more than a few of which have already moved into one of our four competitive squads. Our social calendar is chock-full too, with the leaders of Sparta, our social or casual squad, having planned a program of fun weekends, with our server running various fun mods and game types. It’s sure to be a blast – in more than one sense!

With the continued growth has come a number of changes in the structure of the Division, particularly as our members increasingly take up roles to help support the wider TOG community. Several members have been appointed as Graphics Engineers and Correspondents, while SgtMech, our long-serving Division Captain, has stepped down from his role to take up a new position as TOG Moderator. Mech’s done a great job leading the Division for the last nine months and, while we’re sad to see him go, we wish him all the best in his new role. We’re certainly proud to have so many Division members making strong contributions to TOG.

With Mech’s departure, Salvationjane777 (SJ) has been appointed as the new DC - congrats SJ! - while Ch!ll is staying on as Vice Captain. Ch!ll and SJ will now also be assisted by Sp!at, who’s been appointed to the newly-created second Vice Captaincy position.

SJ’s move to the DC role left Wotan Squad looking for a new Captain to step up and fill some very big shoes. Foss!l threw himself into the breach most ably until theZee, already a Division Correspondent and TOG Graphics Engineer, stepped forward. So far, this latest set of shoes seems to fit him well.

In a different time zone, Caro was recently appointed Captain of our North American/European squad, MARS, and has been doing a great job looking after the needs of our NA/EU members. MARS is a social squad that prides itself on its ‘small family’ feeling and counts a lot of TOG luminaries in its ranks. You’ll typically see them online for regular ‘Sunday Showdowns’, where members meet up to frag each other for fun.

On the competitive side of things, the Division continues to enjoy the ride of competitive COD4 in the GameArena and CyberGamer leagues. As of 7th September, our squad ladder positions are:

* Artemis (GameArena Pos #10)
* Wotan (GameArena Pos #35)
* Hades (GameArena Pos #47)
* Zeus (CyberGamer Pos #40)

The COD4 Division also part of a tri-clan mini-comp being run by the AEF clan. The experience has been really enjoyable for all involved and reinforces our position as a “relevant” citizen of the wider COD4 community. Also, the Inter-TOG 5v5 Sabotage competition has just gotten underway in the TOG Gaming League.

Looking to the future, one of the major changes facing the Division (and TOG in general) is the highly anticipated release of CoD: Modern Warfare 2 in November, 2009. There is a lot of discussion about how TOG should approach structuring its Call of Duty organization to cater for MW2. A public forum has been created for all things MW2 and, if you’re interested in MW2 in TOG, drop into the forum and share your thoughts. Alternatively, you can find us in game – you’ll find our server details in this public thread. It’s great fun, and all are welcome!
