COD4 Teamspeak Issue 1

Welcome to Team Speak, a new ongoing feature that aims to provide a behind-the-scenes look at some of the Squads and Teams that form the basis for so many TOG Divisions. For our inaugural entry, we’re taking a quick look at Wotan, a competitive Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare squad that’s just wrapped its 2009 seaon.

2009 marks the third straight year of competitive play for the Wotan Call of Duty 4 squad. Led by Captain theZee, backed by his trusty Lieutenant, Foss!l, the squad currently numbers nine active members and two subs. As with all TOG COD4 squads, they don’t take themselves too seriously - but they sure do enjoy winning more than losing!

Wotan, like all the Division’s squads, is named after a mythological figure. Better known to some of you (particularly the non-opera goers) as Odin, Wotan is ruler of Asgard and the greatest of the Norse gods. His associations with wisdom, war, battle and victory make him the perfect deity for a tight-knit and competitive squad.

The squad’s basic approach to competitive play is to skill up on a number of favourite competition maps, playing them hard. They also run basic drills before each practice session and match to ensure they’ve got the fundamentals right, and practice ‘nade throws, as they can be the turning point of some maps. Skills are spread out evenly across the team; some are run-and-gun skirmishers, while others are anchors, cleaning up the opposition when all the run-and-gunners have been taken out. At the end of the day, just playing the matches is more than enough reward for their work.

Wotan has had its ups and downs over the years, but strong relationships, patience and putting mates before themselves has helped members hold the squad together through the even the roughest of times. The current roster includes eleven players, but those eleven remain indebted to those who came before, laying a solid foundation for a squad that’s going to be a force to be reckoned with in years to come.

If you’re interested in playing with Wotan, or with any of our other competitive COD4 squads, drop by the forum and register your interest. Newcomers are advised, however, that all potential recruits must spend some time in the Sparta social and training squad before they can be eligible for selection.
