Recently the TOG Admin
sanctioned a skilled based squad in the BF2 division, one of the first
in The Older Gamer's history. Comprising of some of the best players to
don the TOG Tag, Drae along with his eager disciples have shaped into a
very formidable force.
Currently active in the Gamespace 10v10 competition, and recovering
from a slow start, the guys in Phoenix have piled on an impressive 10
wins in a row to surge into the Top 10. "The silent killers of the
Gamespace ladder …. A bone-crunching performance by the Phoenix troops"
describes Momowang, a Gamespace Ladder Referee, of the extraordinary
rise of the Phoenix. Their meteoric rise confirming that TOG does
harbour some skillful BF2 players and importantly it has silenced those
in the BF2 community who like to have a bit of chuckle at our expense.
When asked to comment on
Phoenix and their recent success, Drae was very upbeat about how well
the skill based concept has developed. "The team has really come
together, both to put wins on the board, and also with a real sense of
all working together towards common goals. The success we have had is
due to a great bunch of guys doing the hard yards together, and some
much appreciated support from Father and the Admins. I am very proud of
the team and what we have been able to accomplish. I can only hope that
we continue to do as well towards the end of the GS ladder." He says.
It's not hard to see the
impact Phoenix is having on the other squads, with them adopting new
styles and tactics into their own games. The success of Phoenix in
melding into the TOG Division can also be attributed to their
willingness to assist the other team members with what ever question
they may have.
Xsesiv, the captain of
Slimers, is another who has been impressed with the way Phoenix has
seamlessly integrated into the BF2 Division. "The effect of the Phoenix
squad in the BF2 division has been a good thing. It gave those already
in squads an opportunity to get into it more seriously if they wanted
too", he says, adding "It has also improved the game play and style of
play in other squads - we in the Slimers have made great use of having
that extra advice available on playing tips and styles".
Phoenix
has also been fortunate to coax new blood into the TOG ranks with
Hopefulll signing up recently. “I'm really enjoying the relaxed
attitude in TOG. Being in a relaxed Clan translates to less rage in
Pubs, I'll quit a server before rather than let the TOG name down."
describes Hopefulll, one of Phoenix's more famed recruits from a
LAB/AEF/LT pedigree. When asked the tough question on how TOG was
perceived prior to the Phoenix days? The tactful Hope didn't want to
comment.
So how does the skill-based
concept work? Members are invited to apply for Phoenix and those
selected are given a trial period. The trial not only tests their
skills but importantly gives time to see how they interact with the
other team members. Their newest recruit Tango describes the process as
a "fair and equal way of determining the skills needed to play in
Phoenix".
Interesting times await Phoenix with just under a month till the
Gamespace home and away finishes. Will they hold on to their Top 10
position and progress to the finals?
Being a back seat observer to some of Phoenix's games I can truly say
that I'm in awe with how effective Phoenix have been and the squad work
and discipline they exert, I know where I'd be putting my money.
Well done Phoenix!
