The Journalist department (but mostly me) would like to apologize for falling behind on the Member Spotlight feature.  We are happy to announce that we are back on track with them now though.

For the Month of November we will be featuring The_Fiddler!  Fidd’s is a long time member of The Older Gamers.  He has served as a Division Captain and currently contributes to the success of TOG as a global Moderator for us.

Please read on and enjoy this little glimpse into the life of yet another TOG member.

                                                          Me and Dars

>>> TOG <<<

When did you join TOG, and how did you find us?

I had decided I was good enough at Counter Strike: Source, and was ready to join the big boys by Joining a "Clan". I went looking through the GameArena teams list for recruiting teams, and there I saw "The Older Gamers" I sent an email to Warbear I think it was, and he gave me the website, so I checked out the no under 25 rule, and I was in ;)

Has being part of TOG had much of an impact on your gaming/online lifestyle?

Yeh, I have a lot less time for everything. :p I also get to pick up on games I might not have found out about either, unless I was in the community.

Care to highlight any specific gaming experiences you've had with TOG in your short time as a member?  (Editors Note: The “short time” portion of this question was accidentally left in from a previous member spotlight but worked well here and was left in)

Short time? :p I think the best moments have been watching people look after each other, and some of the strong bonds build. I have seen people buy each other parts, games, set up donations for families in trouble, and just give good old moral support when needed.

What are your future wishes for yourself with regard to involvement in TOG?

Well, I intend to assasinate Father at the Melbourne drinks (by strapping him to a chair and forcing him to use an apple mac for several hours, and place a pile of the latest games next to it. Which of course he won't be able to play), and work my way up from there.

Actually, I do see myself taking up another DC'ship at some stage, it just has to be the right game, with the right people who want to play it. I don't see it being one of the "blockbuster" games, but probably something that starts as a small tight division, into something much larger. Like CS:S did.

Anything you would change?

About TOG? Yeh, I would like some people to change their attitudes towards TOG "Censorship" by us moderators and admins. In some instances, we don't actually have a problem with the content, but it may not be in line with the TOG ethos. Just because the AUP does not state that pictures of naked men swinging goats around by their genetalia are not allowed, does not mean that it is not implied. We don't "Censor" things to tick people off, we just do what we feel is the right course of action, and if we were wrong, it's not that bloody hard to unlock/replace/fix whatever we did.

About me? Yeh, there are so many things, but at the end of the day you have to be happy in your own skin ;)

>>> Work <<<

What keeps the money coming in?

I work for Coles as a Duty Manager

Done anything noteworthy or bizarre for money in the past?

Yeh I bet my neighbor that he couldn't drink a 6 pack in half an hour. It turned out he couldn't.

>>> Travel <<<

Been anywhere good?

Going to New Zealand in a few days Snowboarding. Check out my thread I will invariably put up in the lounge when I get back :p

I have put up two other threads in there from when I went to Perth and when I went to Perisher last year.

Been anywhere weird?

...There was this nightclub once...

When I went on a cruise to Noumea and Vila etc, I chose not to go the tourist traps and instead went up this little dirt track I saw form the ship, I walked for a time, and ended up in a native "Village" I was pretty scared at first, thinking I had intruded, but they were fantastic and showed me around, and some of the natural features like hidden caves and that kind of thing. It impressed me that they were entirely self sufficient.

Best holiday/vacation you've been on?

Hoping it will be the NZ trip I'm about to go on.

                                                                                                                                                          Screenie of my V8 Skin in rFactor

>>> Sport <<<

Are you a fan of any particular sport/team/individual?

Only Queensland in State of Origin. That is about as far as my sporting loyalty goes.

Do you participate in anything yourself?

Only online :)

>>> Transport <<<

How do you get around?

Walk, ride, cab. My girlfriend has a car, and we just don't need a second one. Also frees up some extra $$$ for new pc parts :)

>>> Other interests <<<

Music fan?

Yup

What has pleased your ears over the years?

Black sabbath to Opeth and everything in between. I also spend a lot of listening years listening to the "Seattle sound" with Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden. I used to listen to heaps of Sonic Youth and Led Zep also.

Movie fan?

Love movies. Hate the movies. People rustling chip packets, coughing and talking give me the shits. I have a pretty good home theatre so I don't see the point going to the cinema.

Which ones have been memorable?

Cable Guy, original Matrix, The Usual Suspects, Natural Born Killers.

Bookworm?

Yup

What's kept you turning the pages?

Eddings Novels, (starting with "Belgarath the Sorcerer") also LOVE Robin Hobb. I just finished her second novel from the new "Soldier's Son" Trilogy. Now I have to wait for the last one :(

Hobbies?

TOG IS my hobby.

>>> Random Observations <<<

 In your introduction post when joining TOG, you gave a brief outline of your gaming evolution.  In regards to that, please answer the following question.

Thinking back to your days of playing arcade style games with a fist full of quarters in your hand, what is the one thing you liked about that experience that you may not find with today's internet/computer or console based games? (Editors Note: Again this question was accidentally left in from a previous member spotlight and again worked well here).

I think back then, arcade games were "IT" in the world of gaming. Graphics, performance and gameplay did not get better. Now we see pc's and consoles pushing the boundaries in the home. I don't think the arcade "magic" could ever truly be restored. I used to love going to "TimeZone" for "Lock-ins" where you would pay X amount and be "Locked-in" for a few hours with unlimited credits on the machines. That was AWESOME. It's just not the same locking yourself in a room to play games like it is to be at a "Lock-in"

You said that you ran a pub at one time.  Did you own the pub as well?

Nah didn't own the pub, don't think I'd want to own one either...

There are usually some good stories that come from working a pub job.  Is there any one story that sticks out from your days of running the pub?

Lots of different things went on, however, probably the best thing was having a Caffery's tap left on for me every night after knockoff. The cellar boys knew if it wasn't working when I went for me knockoff, then they went dry too ;)

>>> Comments <<<

Anything you want to say to the rest of TOG or a random thought you may have?

According to Rasputin, Cats taste like chicken.  Big HI to my good mates in TOG, you know who you are ;)
