As one of the better arcade games in the market place; it has action, adventure, and silly humor providing something the whole family can enjoy!
This is a 3-D side scrolling setup that you can enjoy on your own or with several of your friends. You can play up to 4 with a single console split screen, or you can fumble into different mutagenic adventures with 2-4 all-inclusive sidekicks through the ever illustrious Xbox Live.
Not only do you play as the main character Clyde, but also several of his clones brought to us through the antics of Dupliclone. You and your in-game clones are stuck in the Dupliclone lab, trying to escape the several security bots that must be destroyed before a level exit can be produced. Some levels add many twists of variety, meaning, get ready to greet the world as Frog-Clyde, Monkey-Clyde, Exploding Barrel-Clyde and a few more creative nuances that you can contort your clone into.
While you are in one main lab, the game writers did their best to make the play time fun and interesting. With each genetic mutation you will find that you must encounter a myriad of different challenges. Become Frog-Clyde to swim through a man-eating plant trap slash mine field. Become Monkey-Clyde to sail through the air grasping for life upon vines dangling from the ceiling. Can’t make the jump? Grab a sheep! Their springy bounce allows your Clyde to meet the joys of bronco riding with the cuteness of a petting zoo.
To list the pros, this game really is an exploding barrel of silly fun. There are a whole slew of charming and subtle actions that occur by your character. Little phrases spewed out in the midst of adventure. Keep your character still and be amused by his very impromptu jumping jacks. Cloning Clyde truly indulges the giddy side of us all. Adults can enjoy the surprisingly challenging aspects of the game which include puzzle solving in the attempts to collect all your "ken dolls", destroy all your security bots and of course, rescue your brothers from a different, err uh, mother.
Achievements come in an acceptable and generally attainable package so if you want to add to your abominable gamer score to make others grovel at your feet, oh yes....bring the family in! To earn your achievements it's truly the normal platform of most games. Play verses, co-op, collect your toys and build up your skills. Although you don't earn an achievement, also collect your "DNA" that likes to hover mid air and build up a nice little power attack which you will find can almost take out a security bot with one touch of a button.
Cloning Clyde is one of the few games that I have played that left me almost completely satisfied. It is what it is, and it's fun to play so it's difficult to find the hardships when you are in the midst of a nostalgic feeling of youth and excitement. However, there are a few downers that left me a little more than frustrated. On several occasions you will find that holding down the A button in mid jump is the only way to maintain the air time needed to ascend levels. This is important on levels where you utilize your sheep and especially on the levels where you are embodying Frog-Clyde. The only other downside that had become almost a consistency in the last remaining levels is simply the confusion of the puzzles. This confusion gives the word labyrinth a whole new meaning. It can be incredibly hard to focus on your position when you are being constantly sucked down a drain and launched across the lab. It can be disorienting and frustrating, especially to children that might have a hard time deciphering what drain and shoot they should attempt next. As with many puzzle games, complexity advances as your levels number higher which is generally an awesome trait. In the end, just remember that this is a fun game and meant to be an advancing challenge so try to just sit back and enjoy playing a cute construct with your pals and family.
When you start out the game you will notice a series of rooms that are unlocked to you, and inside each room you have a good 4 levels to complete. If you add up all your rooms, and go through every single play option including 10 challenge levels you have received and conquered an amusing and magnetic 34 levels. To top this, they even added on a literally gigantic boss level which gives you a grand total of 35 demanding dares for the very reasonable 800 Microsoft Points.
A charming feature for completing levels is unlocking skins for your character not particularly relevant to the game.

Become Martian-Clyde, Princess-Clyde (not the fairest of them all), and Devil-Clyde, just to name a few. These new skins are a great way to individualize multiple characters when playing co-op, although your clones will always be just generic-Clyde until you inhabit their body. This is just another well thought feature of the game which makes it that much more wonderfully nonsensical.
In my resting opinion I would say that for the money, the game play, the uniqueness and quality of the game I would rate it a 4.0 out of 5.0. For the avid game player the play time probably will not last very long and many people can get through the campaign section in a single, albeit lengthy, sit-down. As for replay appeal, it can be worth it if you like being able to "conquer" a game. Meaning, truly understanding all the levels, completing levels within par time, and checking out every detail about the game. However, other than playing co-op and verses with multiple friends and spending repeated quality time with family, if you long for a game that can be played over and over again, for months and months; this is not the game for you.

But if you want a game for an exceptionally reasonable price, with clean fun, and creative atmosphere that keeps you interested; give Cloning Clyde a try.
