Enter….The Evil Pancake!

imageI’ve had this Evil Pancake domain (http://www.evilpancake.com) for some time now. I’m not sure why I have it aside from the thought of an evil pancake is very amusing to me. I’d like to think that Evil Pancake would make a good supervillain along the lines of Bad Horse or Fake Thomas Jefferson from Dr. Horrible or Chairface Chippendale from The Tick. Anyway, a few months ago I decided to do something “meaningful” with the domain and I set up a gaming blog site. After all, no one was beating down my door to sell it to them. My dreams of an early retirement based on domain squatting turned to dust long ago. Now that TOG has their spiffy new site the blog has found a new home here.

First, introductions are in order. My name is Mike but some of you will know me better as Arep. I am a part-time Web Developer/IT Manager and full-time stay at home dad. I’ve had the dad gig for almost three years now and I’m going to be bringing on a second minion this December ‘08. I am a 34 year old who never really grew up. I am fascinated by computer games and how they’ve evolved over the years. My first computer was a TRS-80 Mark III that my dad brought home from work one day. I remember one weekend when he took me to work to go to some computer class attended by his coworkers...I think I was eight or nine. After the Trash 80 I eventually picked up an Apple IIe and started programing in Basic. You would think that was the start of a brilliant computer career but that’s where things stopped. I had far more fun playing other people’s games than writing my own. I played games for two more decades, only picking up web development skills and some C and Visual Basic. Oh, well...I had fun though.

I’ve been with TOG since right around the launch of Vanguard: Saga of Heroes...January 2007? I quickly left that game for Lord of the Rings Online and have been there ever since. I’ve been an officer, kinship (guild) leader, vice division captain and now just a player. I’ve played just about every MMO out there (except for DAoC...not sure how that got away from me) and my current favorites are LOTRO, City of Heroes/Villains and, recently, Warhammer Online. I started writing articles for TOG early this year and I’ve been having a great time doing that.

Aside from my PC, I also own an XBOX 360 and a Nintendo Wii. The Wii was a really wonderful invention that suffers from a ton of crappy titles and some degree of laziness (and an outright antagonism towards third-party developers) on the part of Nintendo. The 360, on the other hand, is one of the Best Things Ever(TM) and I am constantly amazed that Microsoft came up with it.

Well, I hope you’ll enjoy this blog. It’ll mostly be me bitching about discussing game-related stuff but what else are you going to do with your time, right?
