‘Twas The Season
So, regular readers of Evil Pancake will have noticed that their hasn’t been a new entry in a long time. To those readers let me just extend a heartfelt “you need something better to do with your time.” My hiatus started out with a new job and a glut of very good games to play. I am ending my Daddy Day Care and going back to work full-time. As much as I enjoyed being home with my son for 3 years I found myself missing adult conversation and goals that didn’t include reaching the bottom of a laundry pile. At night Fallout 3, Fable 2, and heck, even Lego Batman were keeping my 360 spinning almost non-stop. If it wasn’t my 360, it was my PC with the Moria expansion for LoTRO.
This Christmas I learned the true meaning of co-op starting with Left4Dead and a few friends. This might be the first game that I own and play on two platforms because the zombie threat needs to be countered on all fronts. The second soon became Team Fortress 2 which i had to force myself to quit in order to write this. My brother-in-law got a PS3 for Christmas and we gave him Guitar Hero World Tour with two guitars. We spent the entire day passing the guitars around. We usually get together with the family on New Year’s Eve and play bord games (yes, this is the exciting life we lead) but this year it will be Scene It and Guitar Hero/Rock Band on the consoles.
Since almost everything I wanted came out over a month before Christmas, my game haul was really light. I got Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, which has been fun so far, and Spiderman: Web of Shadows which is still in the box due to lack of free time. Still waiting on Dead Space and Last Remnant for a game with more meat on its bones but the ones I got will definitely do.
Of course the main reason for my absence is this little potato:
My second son was born in mid-December, doomed to a life of “birthmass” presents. In many ways life with the new baby is both easier and harder than the first one (who is now three). Both mom and baby are doing great and I couldn’t be happier.
I hope everyone had a great holiday and I wish you all the best for the new year.
