Many, if not most "great" new games require next gen gear to run them at max. Look at Oblivion. When it was released (ages ago now) you couldn't get a rig to run it at max for less than five grand. Well... maybe, but not the average older gamer anyway. But that's what gives games longevity... well, that and good gameplay!
And good support... and good netcode... and and and... But it's all part of it.
As for the game looking good set to low... I think it's amazing!! I was, and still am blown away by it's looks... and that's just on Medium! Amazing technology. As I've said elsewhere, I've cranked it right up, and my jaw dropped... unplayable, but spectacular. Simply the best. My next rig (not for another year) will give it a thorough thrashing maxed out. But for now, I'm very happy with it as it is.
