Apparently Nintendo is making moves to trademark the phrase. I'm actually surprised they haven't done it before now. But with Donkey Kong Country Returns being released soon it actually makes alot of sense. By doing this and tying it to the game Nintendo gets alot of free advertising for the game...plus all the royalties from movies etc.
We've all said it. Now Nintendo owns it.
Nintendo has filed a request with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to trademark the pop-culture phrase "Itís on like Donkey Kong." It's been used on TV, in films, on the web, and in nerdy situations like gaming tournaments. Nintendo has labeled it a pop culture phrase, and this would make Donkey Kong a pop culture icon.
Those slicksters at Nintendo are tying this trademarked phrase to the upcoming release of Wii game Donkey Kong Country Returns
. They'd like you to know that on Nov. 21, Itís on like Donkey Kong. See what they did there?
