In addition to the general TOG code of conduct
, the Minecraft Division has some additional points to keep in mind when playing on our servers. The primary thing to remember is
Play fair and be considerate to other players
TO BE DONE:
To help explain how this is relevant on our servers, we have defined a set of rules and guidelines. All players on our servers are expected to pay heed to these when participating. If you have any concerns about how you want to play or any accidental damage you have caused, speak to a divisional administrator, moderator or post a message on the division's forum.
The rules for any allied servers (ie. not the official TOG ones) should be defined in their own subforum. All TOG members on these allied servers are expected to follow the TOG Code of Conduct.
Section 1 - Gameplay on all TOG servers
Section 2 - "Frontier world" rules & information
Section 3 - Requirements for Divisional and Allied Servers
Section 1 - Gameplay on all TOG servers
- No "Griefing"
- Report griefing to the Divisional officers, not the forum
- A player's property belongs only to them
- Consider others when you place your constructions
- Respectively use and resupply community resources
- Our servers are "Family Friendly", and we expect gameplay to match this
- Do not attack players without their consent
- Spoils from a player's corpse are still the dead player's
- Not everyone appreciates a joke or prank
- Ask before you teleport
- Construct nether portals only in the "Overworld", not the Nether
- Spawn eggs are not to be used to generate mobs
- Villagers and their iron golems cannot be attacked or kidnapped
- Fire charges are not to be used without authorisation
- Withers can only be spawned in approved areas.
- No unauthorised mods or hacks
"Griefing" is loosely defined as rudely interfering with another player's gameplay. It includes (but is not limited to) destroying or changing someone's constructions, stealing things from other players, and attacking or causing injury to other players without warning. Griefing is not tolerated on our servers AT ALL
. Such activity can and has resulted in players being banned from the servers. If you accidentally damage a player's property, try to rectify it and inform the player or one of the officers.
Report griefing to the Divisional officers, not the forum
If you feel that you or your construction has been griefed in some way, report this to the division's administrators or moderators, not the forum. Provide us with as much information about the circumstances, especially the time frame and coordinates of where it occurred. Without such reporting, things cannot be investigated. Please note that while you will probably be told if a culprit was identified, they will not normally be named, as per normal TOG procedures.
A player's property belongs only to them
The servers operate on an "open door" policy - whereby all constructions (unless specifically designed to be private) are available for other players to walk around and visit as they wish. However, items cannot be taken from any chest or construction or used without the consent of their owners. This includes fenced farm stock and crops. Such actions without consent are treated as theft and vandalism and are a type of griefing.
Consider others when you place your constructions
When building or mining, consider your neighbours and any players whom you might impact with your work. This includes players whose work your mining or construction may travel under, over or near. If you think there may be issues, discuss it with the player/s concerned. If you require advice, talk to an in-game administrator or moderator. No construction is allowed within an area claimed by another player on worlds which have a claims procedure.
Respectively use and resupply community resources
Each of our worlds has a limited supply of resources that have been made available to all the community. This includes mined ores, tools, farm stock and crops that are all clearly signed as being available for the community to use when they are starting off, or working on community projects. Players are welcome to use such items but are asked to limit the quantity and frequency of their usage and to restock/seed/breed new items as soon as possible in return.
Our servers are "Family Friendly", and we expect gameplay to match this
These servers are run for the benefit of TOG members, but
several of our players have children who also occasionally access the server. We aim to run the servers as family-friendly as possible. As per the general TOG code of conduct, there is to be no swearing or inappropriate language in either the text chat or the voice comms - regardless of whether the children are present in game or not. We also expect players to be considerate of others when designing structures and marking signs. To help players know who the younger players are, many are in the JrVip usergroup so that their in-game name shows up in blue.
Do not attack players without their consent
There are many ways in which a player may be injured through the actions of another player, e.g. melee combat, block removal or placement, mob placement, traps. Outside the context of a specific event, such actions are regarded as griefing if the injured player did not consent to the danger involved in the action. While in some circumstances, pvp traps may be allowed, the presence of such dangers within a construction should be visible obvious or signposted in advance somewhere in the construction. Likewise, mob traps need to be obvious to players if placed on open land.
Spoils from a player's corpse are still the dead player's
Taking ownership of a dead player's belongings is something to settle between you and the player. If there is disagreement, the dead player's wishes win. Different arrangements can be defined for certain pvp events.
Not everyone appreciates a joke or prank
While there is sometimes friendly pranking/joking that goes on between players, make sure that if you do play a joke on someone, it will be taken as a joke. If the affected person feels it is more an attack than a joke then it may be considered by admins to be a "grief", regardless of your initial intention. If you are not sure how your joke will be received, then you probably don't know that person well enough, so it's not a good idea to do it.
Ask before you teleport
Players have the ability to teleport themselves to other players in the game. However, teleporting to some locations can be precarious to both the teleporting player and the person they are teleporting to. Players should first ask if it is safe/ok to teleport to a player, and wait for their reply before teleporting. This allows the player to get to a safe location. Tricking another player into teleporting into an unsafe location is not tolerated.
Construct nether portals only in the "Overworld", not the Nether
It is hard to position portals correctly. For that reason, we ask players to only construct them in the Overworld. This is because unpaired portals made in the Nether may end up generating Overworld companion portals in the midst of someone-else's construction. Ask in the forum if any portals in the Nether need to be corrected.
Spawn eggs are not to be used to generate mobs
Spawn eggs cannot be used to generate mobs of any sort without the consent of adminstrators. Monster mobs especially are not welcome on Sanctuary and their generation may be treated as griefing.
Villagers and their iron golems cannot be attacked or kidnapped
Villagers belong in villages and can not be farmed, attacked or kidnapped. Village iron golems should not be farmed or killed when around a village. Traps cannot be made to kill them in a village. However players are welcome to make their own golems.
Fire charges are not to be used without authorisation
Players are not use fire charges without approval as they have a long range and random targetting. If you wish to use them, you must target the dispenser in an enclosed area and ask a mod or admin for approval before loading any charges into the dispenser. Remember that if you stuff up, your lack of care may be regarded as griefing.
Withers can only be spawned in approved areas
Withers are very destructive. For this reason, they can only be spawned by players within Admin-approved predefined areas within a world that are specially designed to minimise the chance of them running wild. It is expected that players spawn withers for the purpose of battling them.
No unauthorised mods or hacks
Players may use texture packs to enhance the visual look of the game, but any mod or hack that changes the gameplay must be approved for use by the Admins before it is allowed to be used. Similarly, as per the TOG-wide Code of Conduct, you must not cheat, exploit game 'bugs' or utilise any other methods which will alter the standard gameplay and/or provide an unfair advantage to you or any other player.
Currently only these client mods are allowed to be used on our servers:
Water Shader Mod
Zan Minimap (no longer maintained)
What's My Light Level
Allied servers may allow additional client mods, such that all players on that server are expected to have those mods. If not listed above, theses mods are not allowed to be used on any TOG server.
And most importantly, remember that we are bound by the TOG Code of Conduct, part of which says:
The Older Gamers (TOG) is a community founded on the spirit of a sense of decency, fair play, and respect for others.
