Well we have one server here that requires no mods, but most of us are using the other (FTB) one at the moment, as it's more fun
The FTB server requires only the downloading of one file - the launcher, which you then run and it downloads the mod pack and installs it for you (and doesn't affect your standard Minecraft install). So it's very easy to use.
