Not positive if you did or didn't update Java. My wife was getting random crashes and connection issues. It also wouldn't load the mod packs correctly especially on the newer updates until she updated Java. Now she's working fine.
Java is upto version 15 as of a couple days ago; so if still on v11 it could be most of it.
