I have just completed some work on on v1.0 of a simple Dialog Template Framework on the BIS Forum. It's aimed at the mission designers here. Check it out in the editor, let me know what you think.

These new beta islands are looking promising: Winter Sahrani beta (1.05) (256mb) and Everon 0.1 (1.07) (21mb).

It could be fun to simply take an existing mission and wack it onto something like the Sahrani Winter map and try it on the server. Make for a different experience.

Does anyone have any detailed info on how the laser designator works? I found some info on it. I understand it's basic concept, but I always thought it was scripted in for use, but I'm reading more and more that you can use it in many missions. It sounds like it creates a selectable target lock for you.

- Does it work without scripting? (yes?)
- Does it work with AI? (yes?)
- Is it only for jets or could you use it for tanks too? (?)
- Is it only for bombing or for missiles too? (?)
- Does it automatically guide? (yes?)
- Is there a visual indicator to the pilot/gunner of it being used? (no? except for target lock)
_____________

Checking this Comanding_in_Tanks link proved useful. I wasn't fully aware of the benefit to use the spacebar as tank commander.

It also shows the AutoHover shortcut.
Map_markers topic is something most need to review.
- changing it's icon, it's colour and group channel visibility.

Wow, have you seen these mod images from this Vilas' addon BIS mod topic?

2S7 Pion - Somebody ask for artillery?
2S7 Pion - retracted transport position

SCUD launcher
SCUD launcher 2

There's heaps of other vehicles too within the 51 pages: Gvozdik,
Star 266 trucks,
Armored vehicle,
BMP-1 variations,
frosty vehicles
various choppers,

haven't even started yet.

I wish he showed the interiors - that's the main part.

Have played a bit (when RO is not taking my time) and have found that while there are some lovely aspects of the game I find it VERY laggy.

It is not the frame rate for my system, but appears to be general lag on the servers. This is noticeable on both the bots, and other players in game. People jump around like they are on mini-teleport trips. Everything else seems to animate fine.

Is this just me or are other people noticing this?

My configuration is 2 x Dual core x 3Ghz Intel Woodcrest (80556) with 1333 FSB, 4 gig if installed mem (Windows only sees 2 GB of this) and an ATI X1900XT with 512Mb.

I am running on Optus Cable with the 256k upstream option.

I hope that my system/internet could cope, but the game seems to have more lag in it than anything else I have experienced.

Any suggestions?

Oh and I am on the current patch level.

Your specs should play smooth as butter, the only question is what res/settings are you at? Dont you have a 30" monitor?

Mine
AMD 3800x2
2 gb ram
2xhdd in Raid0
X1950Pro 512 MB
WinXpPro x64
8000/384 connection
19" lcd

Res 1280x1024
Settings all normal except postprocess and terrain, both these at low.

No lag, or warping. Only time I see what you describe is on overseas servers or on an Aussie server that has half a dozen overseas players on at 300-400+ ping each.
