Please, I beg asylum of you.
1. I am well over 25 years of age. I am, in fact, 36.75 years of age (b. 25 Dec. 1970). 2. I have indeed read the AUP & FAQ and, moreover, heartily agree with them. 3. I have absorbed the forum/server guidlines, and appreciated them as well.Hi all,
I am Stephanie in Nevada, USA (Pacific Time, -8 GMT). I love videogames--I remember when PacMan hit arcades, visiting the local arcade with a fistful of quarters, and playing Atari 2600 for hours in my best friend's basement. For the past decade or so, I've mostly been playing sims and city builders. Plus, gaming hasn't been a financial priority, but now that I'm in my own home, the grad student loans and the car are paid off, and my current PC is up to snuff, I have been going back and buying all the good stuff I missed (three cheers for Ebay!), like Fallout, Mafia, Morrowind, Battlefield 1942. I'm also keeping current with Bioshock, Oblivion, The Ship, and the Tabula Rasa beta test, which actually is what led me to TOG.
I'm primarily a PC gamer, but the Gamecube took a beating on Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, so I'm not averse to consoles, I just can't see paying that much for the current crop. They're more than a car payment!
I'm a copyeditor by trade, so if you write a FAQ or something you want to post, I'll be happy to proof it for you first. If I'm not at work or on the PC, I'm probably at the river with my dog.
Now to why I'm here. I heard mention of TOG in the Tabula Rasa beta forums, and I was intrigued. I enjoy TR, but am having trouble advancing because...I am playing alone. I'm having enough trouble figuring out the chat system without a manual, so trying to answer hails for groups to storm Pravus Research has gotten me respawned more than once. I canceled my preorder because I am apprehensive about playing with other people online, doing the voice chat (forget shooting and typing; I'm not quite that coordinated), etc. And having never played multiplayer or MMO because none of my friends is a gamer (yes, it's the age thing--they have families, and I am recently singled, probably for the best), I am hesitant to try it out because of all the horror stories I've heard about nasty, foul-mouthed teenagers shooting someone's hard-earned character out of spite. I really want Tabula Rasa, but not if I can't play it the way it is supposed to be--multiplayer.
I would love to try an MMO and the online components of standalone games I have, but don't know anybody to play with, or as a result, even how it all works. I'll try not to get anyone else killed, I swear, and not attempt multiplayer with a game I wasn't mostly competent at first. Thanks for giving hope and sanctuary to those of us who aren't teenaged boys, and who take a little longer to figure out the controls!
