Hello!
1. I am successfully well past 25 years of age.
2. I am literate and my eyesight is still good enough to have read both the AUP & FAQ
3. I've also read the forum/server guidelines.
Saw this site mentioned on good game, which is funny because I just joined geezergamers.com a couple of weeks ago. It's also a great site but I'm hoping since this is more aussie-friendly that I might find some folks in a better timezone generally here. Since the sites have fairly similar purposes I might cut and paste a bit from my hello post there....
I've been reading 2o2p's website for a year or two now and was relieved to have found a site where gaming news can be posted from an older gamer's perspective, and with reply comments not turning into platform wars and excessive use of exclamation marks. Finding this site feels the same, and some of the news postings really struck home. Hearing 14 year olds singing shrilly into their headsets for no apparent reason while having my backside handed to me in an online game isn't my idea of a good time .
I'm a 36 year old gamer from Melbourne. I usually try and make time to have a quick game just after work (around 5-6pm), a little bit in the evening (around 9pmish) and sometimes on weekends depending on how much is going on...
My eyes are bigger than my stomach when it comes to gaming. I never seem to have the time that I hope to when it comes to games. I buy consoles, games, etc with every good intention to play them a lot, but unfortunately life tends to get in the way. That's not to say I don't touch them, but I almost never finish a game.
My first console was an Atari 2600, my first computer a Commodore 64. It's worrying to me that I still remember that Space Invaders on the Atari 2600 came with '112 games' and that sys64738 will reset a commodore 64, but I don't remember which button in 'melee' attack in Halo 3 when it counts... Off the top of my head, I've gamed on a lot of different platforms over the past 25 years including Nintendo Game & Watches, Amigas, Atari STs, Atari Lynx, Vectrex, NES, SNES, PC, PS1, PS2, Mac, Xbox360, Wii, PSP, DS, etc. Oh, and I collect old Pong/TV Tennis games, but don't have enough to impress anyone. Scare some people perhaps, but not impress.
Lately I've been playing:
* Halo 3 (one of the few games I've finished in recent years, though admittedly with the help of Co-Op play),
* NHL 08 which I love but am atrociously bad at, and
* Zelda on the DS.
The Wii has been gathering dust a bit of late, but I'm looking forward to the Mario Kart game early next year. The PSP has been very neglected - not sure what happened there - in the early days there were some really strong titles like Lumines, Burnout Legends, GTA, etc. Nothing released lately seems to attract.
Usually I like games that don't involve a huge learning curve. There are exceptions - I've been sucked into games like Starcraft or Civ III, but usually if I start feeling like I need to write notes to remember the rules of the game, I'll leave it be. GRAW on the X360 was another example of this - I didn't mind the game, but there were just too many buttons to try and remember. I'd rather have fun than compare polygon counts. I love the burnout series (mostly), buy at least one NHL game a year, thought Driver 1&2 and GTA3 were pretty good, but haven't been excited by any of the offshoots since, and am getting a bit tired of the lack of interesting and original ideas in gaming.
Hope that's an okay intro! I'd be happy to add a few names to my friends list on X360, thereby doubling it. My gamer tag is "Mr Steed". (Anyone remember who Mr Steed is?)
