Hello,
I'm over 25 (43 in fact), and i've read the AUP & FAQ, as well as the Forum/Server guides.
I live in Maine, USA, and I play a little bit every day. Usually about an hour every morning (it's better than coffee haha) and for about 1-2 hours every afternoon/evening (4:30 - 6:30). On the weekends i'm on-and-off several times each day.
I'm an I5 System Operator as far as work goes. As for gaming, I started out at arcades when I was a kid. Games like Robotron, Joust, and Spyhunter just to name a few. My first console was a Sega Genesis, and the first game I played on that was Mortal Combat. When I went to school to learn COBOL/RPG programming I was introduced to PC's. I heard about a game called Doom and, since I didn't own a PC, I bought it for the Sega. I was so struck by it that I bought a screamin' Gateway P90 and played Doom on that. My next two games were Descent and Duke Nukem, and both of those were the games that got me "hooked". Since then i've played many, many FPS games, and have also built/upgraded 7 PC's.
My game of choice right now is Team Fortress 2, but i'm really looking forward to Age of Conan (it's supposed to come out in late March according to the Devs). If they "stay true" to Robert E. Howard's writings like they say they are this game will get most of my time. I love the sounds and effects of bullets and bombs, but nothing beats a good sword stroke!
I usually don't use in-game voice. It seems that no matter on what Server or what time of day, somebody always comes along and starts ruining it for me (and many others). Be it excessive swearing, or blasting background noise over an open mic, or just plain whining about how player X simply MUST be a hack or cheater because he/she did whatever. To me that takes away from the game. It makes it more of a thing to be tolerated, and less of a thing to be enjoyed.
Along those lines, I don't play competitively (meaning "official" matches). I play for the pure and simple enjoyment/fun of playing a game. I don't mind a kind of off-the-cuff lets-do-this-to-get-that-flag kinda thing, but when it comes to practice times and scrim times and match times i'm out. I have enough deadlines in the real world, I don't want them "bleeding" over into my fun time.
That's it for now (sorry for the book lol). Based on what i've read it seems that TOG's interests/beliefs and mine are similar in several aspects. Take care all, i'll see you on the field of honor!
