[DONE] Where's Matlock? You promised Matlock!
Greetings, one and all! I am looking for fellow "mature" (physically, if not mentally) gamers with whom I can enjoy a favourite past time without a lot of the nonsense that eminates from many of the young 'uns these days.
Following TOG's new-member procedure:
1. You are over 25 years of age.
I am over 25 years of age. Gen-X'er and proud of it, born in the early half of the '70s (probably explains a lot).
2. You have read the AUP & FAQ.
Yes, I have read both the AUP and the FAQ (needs a rewrite though to jazz 'em up - I fell asleep half-way through).
3. You have read the forum/server guidelines.
Yes, I have read the forum/server guidelines (won't be waiting in line to see the movie version, though - not a high enough body count).
A bit about myself (feel free to get some kip at this point)...
I'm located in Sydney (NSW, AU) and play mostly at night and on weekends (depending on what else is happening, of course). I play on Game Arena's servers mainly to protect my monthly traffic quota since I'm connected to Big Pond (no wisecracks, please). I work in IT, essentially because my childhood hobby became my career.
My gaming history goes back to the era of Omega Race (cartridge!) on the Commodore 64 and the tune played by the Capcom cassette tape loader for Commando is permanently stuck in my head.
My first experience with real-time, graphical, networked multiplayer games came in my undergrad years (the era of the first versions of Doom and Quake), back when badly designed IPX broadcast code would bring LANs to a crawl.
I've only recently (past 12 months or so) seriously spent some effort on more modern multiplayer games, with the explicit intention of playing against other humans (99.9% of my RL work mates and friends are not gamers at all, let alone on-line multiplayer gamers).
Most of the multiplayer games I have/play are of the FPS type sold by Valve - specifically, CS:S, DoD:S, HL2:DM and TF2. In fact, I blame TF2 entirely for my recent delve into these games as I was completely sold after seeing the trailers for TF2.
I also have most (bar one, I think) of the Command and Conquer series, but I haven't played against another human since about TibSun was released (and back then it was via modem, direct dial-up!).
My gaming platform is essentially a laptop (yeah) which I play in front of the TV (uber lazy, eh?) - if one form of entertainment is a little slow, easy for the eyes to wander to something else (probably explains some of my scores, too).
Well hopefully I haven't bored you by now. I humbly submit my application for TOG membership for consideration!
