I really did look at them but I must confess they're very similar in many respects to many others so I breezed a bit, ok, a lot!
Anyway, I'm not here to make a prick of myself so the conditions are ok by me.
My real name is Terry, I'm an electrical contractor from Bacchus Marsh in Victoria, Australia and I'm a 52 year old boy with a puter that I love to bits.
I've been in love with one computer or another for, well...., about 30 years.
My first pc was a Sharp PC1211 with 1.6 MB of memory and an 84 character dot matrix horizontally scrollable display that was a delight to use because I could program it in basic to play games.
Actually that was the only way I could do anything on it. Program it I mean.
So I became very inquisitive, like many of you old boys, and I used to dream of playing a game on a computer that allowed me to do just about anything, against other people over a connection that might be wired or radio.
LAN wasn't a word then, neither was wireless. Come to think of it, internet wasn't much thought about either, except by the spooks.
The first game that seemed to achieve that status in my mind was Battlefield Vietnam.
It was awesome and I spent quite a lot of time playing it online.
I still find it difficult to find a game that comes anywhere close to the scope of that game.
Everyone seems in a rush to get their games on the market so the maps are tiny and the servers can't handle the loads.
I do find Fear to be very exciting. I play this a lot. Actually I'm quite addicted to it. It's currently my favourite and though I've purchased the game, it's free to download and play on the Bigpond servers.
It's seriously fast and the servers seem able to handle the load.
Call of Duty 2 is good but I haven't reloaded it yet. I think I will.
Call of Duty 4 could be good but the maps are puny and the servers struggle.
I can't stand the way the game stutters when the air support becomes active. I assume it's the server because it feels like lag but if it is just the game then it's a shit part of the game.
So shit that it puts me off playing it.
Battlefield 1942 is awesome but it seems to crash on me with my new computer. Don't know why and I've reloaded it twice but it crashes when I play it online.
By the way, my interest is in gaming online. I rarely game by myself.
The games always become monotonously predictable without the human interaction.
When I'm offline I'd just as soon do spreadsheeting or write a letter or what the hell, I've got to work too.
Fortunately my two boys are all growed up so they take care of themselves and my Mrs likes watching anything medical or romance on foxtel or tv which allows me plenty of time to PLAY GAMES ONLINE.
In case you're interested, I have a Quad Core Q6600 2.4GHz processor with 2GB of 800MHz Corsair memory and an 8800GT PCIE graphics card.
I'm very proud of my puter and I love it to bits.
I always use Gigabyte gear, but only because it seems to work ok.
I have a 1500 ADSL connection through Bigpond which gives me the benefit of using the Bigpond Game Arena. I like this part because I can sit here all night or weekend and game away to my hearts content and I'm not metered.
I have a 25GB download limit after which I get shaped to 64K.
It has happened but only because my bloody son downloads so much shit.
I get a bit pissed I can tell you when I get a message from Bigpond that I'm 80% through my limit and it's only half way through the month.
I don't really care who I game with so long as they don't use a hack and can tolerate people make a mistake sometimes.
We're all here to have fun so, here I am and if I haven't rambled on too much, you might find it acceptable to have me join you for a game, or three, or four.
I never take my gaming too seriously because I do it for the fun and relaxation that it provides.
While there are many other things I like to do and I'd like to have a go at, I really, really love to game online and I do need to temper myself to get myself to bed sometimes.
I'm looking forward to getting into some tem action and I'll have a look at the various game forums to see whats good that I haven't tried, and there's plenty of that.
But first, over to you.
