Hello,
I would like to apply to join TOG. I live in Perth, Australia.
I'm 34, and have been playing games pretty much my whole life. First in 1979/1980, when my father bought a System 80, which was a clone of the more popular TRS80. I caned that machine. Everything had to be loaded by cassette tape, which was flaky, and the system had a memory of 16k. Memorable games on that unit were Rescue at Rigel, Hellfire Warrior, and some I only now have a picture in my head left. But the gameplay of them stands today.
Atari 2600 was the next love (could only use one at mates place though), River Raid being a standout for me, but lots of others. The same period saw me invest a lot of cash into 1942 & Gauntlet machines in arcades.
Apple IIgs was next, where I was a fiend on the original Bard's Tale, as well as many old Apple II games (choplifter, Aztec, others I can't remember again).
School PC's were a fave also at that stage, where The Ancient Art of War was my personal love, as well as Jet.
Strangely, Unix machines kept me occupied for a few years at uni, playing Moria and its clones, and a few of the first MUD's.
PC's were next, and thats where its been since. Doom II is probably one of the landmarks in the 90's for a while, then onto so many others, Descent... memory fails me.
The last decade has seen me on many, but the ones that stand out were Red Alert 2, RTCW, Age of Empires 1 & 2, Roller Coaster Tychoon, Quake 2/3 Arena, UT2004, Ghost Recon, Flat Out...
As I travel a lot, I have recently even been onto short, turn based games, where I can submit my turn while in airport lounges, or the games only last 20-30 minutes. Risk, Chess games, and Tactics Arena Online. Marvellous.
I get into Strategy, FPS, and anything quirky (e.g. Portal recently).
To me, its the
gameplay over everything else.
