Gaming Background
I have played games since I was about 5 years old. My first systems where hand me downs from my older brother: ZX Spectrum, Atari 800XL, Commodore 64, Atari VCS 2600 and from an early age I had a great interest in gaming and programming. The first system I purchased with my life long savings at the age of 11 was an Atari 520STFM, which I enjoyed for many years, it had some awesome games and although it was slightly less powerful compared to the Commodore Amiga, the gameplay experience was amazing. I still fire it up now and again to play Carrier Command, Future Wars, any of the Bitmap Brothers games and a much more. I also could be found at the local arcade spending any "spare" cash on all the classic arcade games.
A bit later on I then started delving into the console world with machines like the NES, Sega Mastersystem and thanks to a few summer jobs I purchased a Japanese Super Famicom pretty much on release and in the years after started to build up a pretty large library of games (about 400 carts) of all formats (PAL, NTSC)... I still have and cherish my Japanese Super Famicom (still with the original box, cables etc...) and I also went on to purchase an American Super Nintendo and European Super NES.
Around 1994 I got my first PC (that was roughly in the golden age of Wolfenstein, Doom, Rise of the Triad, Duke Nukem) and from that point onwards I have shared my gaming time between consoles, PC's and "retro".
So, basically I have most of the prolific systems from the 80's, a large collection of different consoles from the 90's (not just Sega and Nintendo systems, I also own stuff like the Playdia, Fujitsu FM Towns, Neo Geo and much more) and the count comes up to about 40+ systems and games in my collection, much to my spouses dismay
Genres that I enjoy
Being a gamer, I basically like anything I can play, be it Pong or Mass Effect
On console systems I prefer platform games, traditional arcade games, fighters, shoot'em'up's, some driving games, RPG's (in a Square / Enix / Nintendo vein). I also enjoy beat games like Taiko no Tatsujin, Dance Dance Revolution (yep, I'm the stereotype half naked fat guy jumping up and down on his home dance mat in front of the widescreen and the PS2) and stuff like Wii Sports. Basically anything goes for me
On PC's I really enjoy any type of strategy games (from stuff like Europa Imperialis to stuff like Startcraft / Warcraft III), MMO's (I have been pretty much devoted to WoW for the last 2 and half years), FPS games and flight simulators.
PC wise I have been in a few clans playing Counterstrike, Quake 2 / 3, UT, Battlefield 1942, Warcraft 3, WoW but I have always been a bit put back by "kiddie" attitudes and putting the "i" before the "team", so I prefer playing with more adult gamers.
At the present time I have "left" WoW, and I am enjoying a long list of PC games that I haven't been able to dedicate time to, in addition to playing the Wii (Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3, Wii Fit, Mario Kart) with my girlfriend (erm....that didn't sound right!) and some retro stuff. I am waiting for AoC which looks pretty much amazing and Starcraft 2. I also try to fit in some CoD4, Gears of War and some historical strategy games.
Well, that is a little bit of my gaming background. If you have read all of this and not fallen asleep by now, you have my thanks!
Hope to hear from you guys soon!
