Default [DONE] Application: MMOGAddict/Resolute

My name is Paul, I’m 37, no kids (My Girlfriend considers me a big kid so she doesn’t need little versions of me running around). I run an importation business suppling consumables and high end machine tools, automation and workholding systems to toolrooms and general manufacturing sector. I’ve been playing MMORPGs for way too long and can usually be found in most games using the name Resolute or on most gaming forums using mmogaddict and/or Resolute.

I live in Melbourne, Australia.

My girlfriend has a morbid fear of Ventrillo/Teamspeak – however I have got her well trained to bring me food and drink throughout raids ! So I guess she's a keeper.

As to my online game history (Don't worry I don't type this up all the time, its saved to a file which I update after every new game - mainly cause otherwise I'll forget a couple of games whenever somebody asks 'what games have you played before' - which just about ever guild does.)

Started in Muds - wasted way too many hours at uni playing LP muds back in the day. Mainly on an LP Mud called Moral Decay went under the name of Phoenix, became a WIZ there.

UO - First graphic MMO I played - didn't really like it but played it for around 3 months - game was laggy as all hell, connection was dialup but it was the birth of the industry so what could you really expect.

Asherons Call - Stuck with this one for around 2+ years, playing on Thistledown server as a character called Phoenix Wolfsun - great game for it's day - loved killing Olthoi - and the background story is still one of the best developed. Participated on the defence of the Shard in what to date is probably one of the greatest MMORPG moments. The defense was so successful that the devs had to step in to defeat us.

Anarchy Online - 2nd worst launch in MMORPG history - but after its initial rough patch was one of the best MMORPG's around - I was in an Omni-Tek corp known as Division 9 RSGE eventually rising to guild leader for a spell before stepping away from the game after around 2 years of playing.

WWIIOnline - Worse launch in MMORPG history - I certainly knew how to pick them - Eventually became a great game - specially if you didn't visit the playskool forums - Started with the Allies playing with the ANZAC's before joining the Axis as a member of FJ1 and later 3rd Panzergruppe. Specialized in ruining peoples days either with a 88 or taking my little tinpot PzII into towns and mowing down infantry.

Asherons Call 2 - Beta tested this game, then joined the staff of AC2HQ pre it being brought out by the Vault network, then played the game for around 9 months becoming an officer of Sacred Nemesis before leaving the game in disgust - A prime example of how to not design a MMORPG if I ever saw one.

Jumpgate - Played for a month - quit due to the effort of playing with Aussie ping.

Planetside - Joined up with Sturmgrenadier on Emerald - a guild I knew from my WW2Online days to play Planetside - SG as it's also known was a very military style organisation and we did well at Planetside at one point being able to field 90 players online at night we could also singlehandly fill up continents by ourselves - it was at this point we earnt the nickname 'crashes of servers' for the inability of the server to put up with all of us hitting the same location at once. Rose to the Officer ranks as an XO for our Air Wing. (We had an Infantry, Armour and Air wings) Eventually left the game when the offpeak numbers dwindled to almost non existent levels.

Star Wars Galaxies - Sacred Nemesis moved over the SWG - an interesting game but one that was a little too much in the sandbox mould for my liking (and a great many others) and suffered for it. However the crafting system was one of the best in the industry and probably the games strong point. After about a year of playing this I eventually left for other pastures.

Earth and Beyond - Played for only a couple of months before quitting.

EvE Online - Been playing on and off for about 4 years as a member of Sturmgrenadier (SGHQ) through various wars and alliances, took part in the most recent galaxy spanning conflict as part of the 'Alliance' against the Northern and Southern Coalition forces - basically this war was the biggest series of conflicts in EvE to date and spanned the best part of 12 months and resulted in fighting in nearly every corner of the galaxy. SG for a decent part of the conflict was part of the Rise Alliance a subset of the greater Alliance. Still playing this on and off but currently corpless, as I just don’t have the time to commit to the game – though I’m still progressing my character – 83 million sps and climbing.

Everquest 2 - Played for a few months from launch but found WoW more enjoyable and left the game to pursue my tanking in WoW.

World of Warcraft - Started with Sturmgrenadier on the Bleeding Hollow server but after a couple of months it became apparent that SG's style didn't suit WoW's PvE dominated gameplay and I left along with a lot of the more hardcore players to form a guild called Vae Victus and became one of it's tanks. Eventually got tired of the constant getting up at 4am to raid and eventually moved to Jubei'Thos server where I joined a guild called Genesis - I quickly became one of the offtanks for the guild and we progressed through to just before the 4 Horsemen prior to Burning Crusade was released. Post BC we again jumped into the raiding fray and made rapid progress through the content including some Oceanic first boss kills. It was during this process that two things happened - I set up a new business that was taking incredible amounts of my spare time and secondary I became increasingly bored of the game after 3 years of tanking.

Auto Assault - Played for around 2 months before becoming bored with the game and the lack of a player base.

A Tale in the Desert - A mmorpg with absolutely no combat in any form - no PvE - no PvP - more a social RPG of ancient Egypt - played for about 6 months as a nice change of pace - plus as you've gathered by now - I pretty much like to play all sorts of MMO's

Guild Wars - another one which I played only for a month - found the gameplay kinda boring.

City of Heroes - played for 2 months - found it a bit repetitive - plus was joining the game a couple of years after launch so there weren't many people to level with.

Dungeons and Dragons Online - Played two months here - but the need for groups to get anything done plus the low offpeak population made this game a wash for me.

Lords of the Ring Online - Have a lifetime account but only played about 3 months here on and off - a nice game - but just haven't had the time to get fully involved in it.

Pirates of the Burning Sea - Played this game initially on the Antigua server as Spanish with Sturmgrenadier we went on to have the world first server win following that up by a quick second map win. However we became a victim of our success with many of our opponents growing fearful to attack or defend against us. A lack of PvP resulted in us calling a vacation for the 3rd map to allow our opponents to rebuild so they wouldn't all reroll off the server like some of them had, unfortunately this resulted in an overall lack of interest in the game and we left the game.

Age of Conan - Initially signed up for Primal Fury, a large Aussie based guild but when the management decided to move over to playing on a US server I left to join Bloodspire an Oceanic preferred server. On Bloodspire I joined Vendetta as some other ex-Primal Fury players had. Played a POM called Inara. However due to major content and bug problems due to a rushed launched I left the game to go to WAR.

Warhammer – Joined up with some ex-vendetta on the Destro side in Bloody Convicts (the other half of the guild went order and formed Tempest – I went Destruction as I preferred the flavour of that faction. However due to queues the leadership of the guild decided they were better off rolling order on Ironclaw as so moved to playing order over there. I chose to remain playing Destruction on Darklands and joined up with a Singaporean guild (as they were the only mature guild I could find) called Project Mayhem. Eventually found Warhammers endgame to be lacking and Mythic slow to react to the situation of a lack of depth and variety at the pointy end of the game which led me back to …

World of Warcraft (Again) -
You think your out… but they drag you back in……

Currently I’ve been running around levelling a couple of characters with an exguildmate of mine from my Genesis days who is currently one of your guild members. As I’ve known you guys (played with and against you) in a number of games I thought it might suit me.

Looking at joining TOG in World of Warcraft on the Jubei'Thos server and may take a squizz at your EvE portal as well.

As far as future games on the horizon, there isn't that much out there that looks promising. Will probably have a look at Star Wars: The old Republic as well as Blizzards 2.0 mmorpg.
