I am a 35 year old father of two, I live in the 'burbs (in the UK), I do the 9-6 thing and I have a lovely girlfriend who also enjoys playing computer games. I also have a cold beer and a cool breeze from outdoors, love it? oh yes, I try!
Where did gaming start for me? Well the earliest I can recall is playing 'space eggs' on my father's Apple II, we played in turns as a family and it was the best thing I'd ever seen.
From there my own first computer, a Dragon 32, I wish I could remember the names of the games, but I cant, but many happy times, and my first foray into BASIC programming.
Then came the best games machine of all time (imo), the Amstrad CPC464 with a green screen monitor and finally I could enjoy all the arcade games in the comfort of my own bedroom, suffice to say I was the king of double dragon, driller and the dizzy series. In particular I was hooked on the text adventure games, more than a few input myself from magazines and books (anyone remember LOTR which came with the first book in a huge plastic box?).
My CPC addiction ended when my Dad bought a PC... actually it briefly ended when he bought an Amstrad PCW before that and I got my first experience of isometric 3D gaming with 'Batman', how could computer games design ever top it, I was well and truly hooked.
The PC brought with it opportunities to play some great games like Frontier (oh I doubt this input box is long enough for me to bang on about that game) and various other great titles.
University (circa 1991) found me enjoying the internet and my new found love, MUDs, which I played solidy for the next 10 years, along with afore mentioned games like frontier, various sim city types.
After this came consoles, I was a late starter on these, with my first being a PS2. I also owned a xbox and a gamecube, I enjoyed mainly driving games and sports simulations and at the same time devoted a lot of my time to tiger woods online play.
Around 2007, World of warcraft entered my life and promptly took it over, I was successfull in defeating Muru (pre nerf) in TBC, quit for a bit and returned to take on OS/NAXX/Mally and Ulduar in WotLK as a holy paladin. Like many the lack of diverse challenges in WoW (compared to TBC) have pushed me away from the game and for the last few months I have revisted EvE online and am enjoying it immensely. I have not given up on WoW and perhaps ToG is the medium I need to start enjoying the game again.
Ok, anyone left reading is probably a little derranged, so I will press on. What do I want from ToG?
I'd say primarily a group of players to play EvE and WoW with without having to hide my intollerance of 15 year olds (they're not all bad but you all know what I mean). I'd like to be forgiven for sometimes having work and family demands which I choose to put first.
I do view gaming as a team as a responsibility, but naturally with appropriate prior notice I reserve the right to put the family and work first. I've managed all this with some success in the past but some fellow players have found it a point of concern that I'd rather go to legoland than sit raiding for 12 hours at a weekend.
More about me? Well, when I was a child I always said I wanted to be a bus driver. 5 years ago I quit the computing 'rat race' and did just that, it was great! One chance guys, it;s all you get, so no matter how small or large those dreams were, go do it for a while.
I hope that says enough about me
