Application
Hey all,
Hmm...where to begin?
Ok...first things first.
Me.
I'm a 36 year old gamer, been playing these time absorbing machines since 1982-ish and my Vic20. From there I went through Spectrum, Atari ST, Amiga before finally reaching PC, starting out with a 386 SX25. I've played far too many thousands of games in every genre thats ever existed, and I've liked games in all kinds of genres.
However, one genre above all others really struck home, and thats MMOs. My time in those was forever sealed the first moment I logged into the Catskills server on UO in 1997. MMOs have been my main gaming staple ever since.
I'm married to a woman who is far far FAR too good for me, and we have a 3 and a half year old daughter who is far far too perfect to have ever come from me. Combined they are my greatest treasure and my greatest pleasure. I deserve neither but cherish both.
I've known about TOG for a long time now, but have never thought about joining until very very recently. I think finally I have come to realise that I just share so little in common with most of the people I encounter online, that it would just be nice to be part of a community that can understand the things I deal with every day and can relate to my life and I to theirs.
Work
I work in IT, within the Education Sector. Have done so now for almost a decade. Currently I am working at one of the top 20 largest public schools in England. (Age range 11-18 )
Game History
I wont cover everything here, as it would take much too long. Played most major titles over the last 25 years and many minor titles. My MMO history is as follows (in no particular order) :
UO - Catskills - (greatest of all the MMOs imo)
Daoc - Guinevere (Midgard)
EQ2
SWG
WoW - Both US and EU servers
WAR
LOTRO
AOC
Tried most of the other major MMOs too, but those are the ones that I spent any real time in.
I've done most things in my MMO time, RP, PvP, PvE, led guilds, run player run towns and so on. These days I pretty much like having little responsibility and just being a member.
TOG Interest
I will confess that the MMO genre seems to be continuing down a path that I dont find I like much, seems to be increasingly going away from the MMO style I grew to be so amazed at in UO. However, currently I am considering Aion.
I've actually preordered it and so have beta access, I first got to try it last beta phase (4) and whilst I saw nothing "new" , what I did see was well polished and smooth. I will be honest and say that at this stage I dont know how long I will be in Aion. It will greatly depend on how the later levels and the PvP work out. If they can capture something of the Daoc experience then my stay will be much longer than if I get a WoW/WAR PvP feel from it.
Essentially though, I'm applying here in the hope of joining up with TOG for the upcoming Aion beta phases, (as I saw virtually no chat or interaction whatsoever in the last beta phase) and see how Aion might fit on me as my next (maybe last??) MMO.
If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask. I'm a very open person and frankly will talk about anything.
