Hello!
I discovered your group from a recruitment post by Rourke on the Champiions Online forums, and it appears TOG is exactly what I'm looking for.
1.
What games are you currently play/looking to play with TOG?
Champions Online, and later when they come out: Star Trek Online and Star Wars: The Old Republic. I also play LOTRO, but my characters are already guilded there.
2.
What was the first gaming console you own or pen and paper game you played?
My first gaming console was a Radio Shack "pong" game. In fact, I think I still have it packed up somewhere in my garage.
After that, I got an Atari 2600 clone. My first computer was an Apple 2e, and of course I played a ton of games on that! (The first computer I used, though, was a TRS80... I took a summer class on learning BASIC programming on that).
I never really got into pen & paper gaming. I have a bunch of D&D dice and manuals, and I also have some trading card games (Magic: The Gathering and Jihad), but my friends weren't interested so those are in a box.
3. Why do you want to join TOG?
While my playstyle tends to lean towards crafting and solo PVE, it is nice to belong to a friendly guild/clan... if for no other reason than to enjoy in-game chat. Depending on the game and situation on hand, it is necessary to group up to advance and I really don't enjoy the randomness of "pick-up groups". I'd much rather hang out with a group of people that I can get to know over a period of time.
I've played other MMOs in the past, including WOW and others, but it wasn't until Star Wars Galaxies and then LOTRO that I started favoring guilds that lean towards older players. Nothing against the younger crowd... I just have more fun with people who actually "get" my obscure movie references.
4.
Tell us about yourself or anything else you'd like to share.
My playstyle for Champions Online will likely be casual, as I've put a lot of time and effort into my LOTRO main character ("Lysorn" on Elendilmir). LOTRO will likely remain my primary game until Star Trek Online and SW:TOR come out. Once those 2 games come out, I will likely re-evaluate where my online "home" is.
In "real life" I'm an IT professional. I currently telecommute as a sub-contractor for IBM. I'm a Team Lead for a small development & technical support group. The project I was working on for the last 18 months just "went live" last month, so things are still pretty hectic as my team tries to work the bugs out of the system.
I'm also working on my own personal development project. I had to temporarily set it aside due to all that's going on at work, but I should be able to resume working on it within the next few weeks. This project uses a MMO engine (MultiVerse) and data from NASA to host an online realistic simulation of our solar system that updates in real time. (Meaning: you can fly around in your ship inside the solar system, and all of the planets, moons, asteroids, etc. you see are placed where they're supposed to be). The front page isn't online, but you can read my occasional blog updates and access the free demo at
Solar-Sim Devlog
That's probably enough for now. I hope to see some of you online in the near future!
