Default Gamer Resume' Submit for Review

Good day to you whomever is reading this:

I wish to become a member of TOG since I first saw them prancing around the lands of Sector 1 in the new MMO Fallen Earth. Perhaps it has had something to do with the name of the guild, that being "gamers who are older than dirt" feeling. Case in point, how many players online really remember Coleco? Sure Atari is still a big hit with a comeback in game publishing, but do younger players remember the days of playing "Adventure" and "Haunted House" for days on days - or Decathalon till the center of your hand was blistered? However, nothing is more memorable than swearing at a pixelated Mario (when he first appeared on my home TV) because he didn't jump when I clearly hit the B button on my controller. And who still remembers the generic code "up up down down left right left right (select and/or A B) start" uber cheat sequence?

So aside from my extensive console background, I have fired 47,983 bullets at German Nazis on my first PC with A Drive loaded disks for Wolfenstein. I have died billions of times in a pool of my own blood on Doom(s) and Quake(s). I have made my Sim City look like Katrina hit 16 times and reinacted the great San Francisco fire about 4 or 5 times (I even played Independence Day there too). I am sure there are many other classic titles that I have sworn at or smacked my mouse onto the desk for, but alzheimers is taking its toll.

As of the last 10 years though, I have been fairly active in creating havoc in online FPS games and MMOs/MMORPGs (but are they really RPGs like DnD, Twighlight 2000, and Shadowrun? I still argue this). Due to skyrocketing blood pressure from dealing with 8 year olds faster than me, I have since left the realm of FPS and been mainly focued on the MMOs. I have been involved with Dead Presidents Gaming Guild (even been a moderator for some time but since have stepped away), but they lack the following for MMO play, so I need a new home. I have been heavily into NWN and NWN2, both as a player, forum moderator, and GM online for several servers. Never the less, my current passion is Fallen Earth, and although it looks strangely similar to Fallout 3, its much more fun and you can eventually drive a car outfitted with weapons - very cool!

So here I write to you oh moderator of TOG (and others), my application to join so that I may be part of the ranks of other TOG wrinkle rears on Fallen Earth or perhaps other games. I hope this applicaotin is suiteable and that you have enjoyed my wordy comical rants of good times and old memories.

Good day to you.

Thanks for the very detailed application!

I'm not keen on your chosen user name containing 'Phkn' - can you re-think it and let me know what you'd like to make it? just post up here & I can change it when I approve your application.

Thanks!

Hmmm, that will be tough. This has been my online gamer handle for 12 years now. Its not something I am quick to give up on simply because of the community of people I know recognize this name as me. I will have to consider.

No problem, I understand how you feel about that. Swearing (however masked) in a forum name just isn't permissible.

Let us know your decision

I am curious why an obviously mature, intelligent, well written individual would even want to keep a name that is more like something a sixteen year old would come up with to get past the school censors...?

...'course maybe you came up with it when you were a teenager, but I'd seriously consider using your 47,984th bullet to give PhknCornBread an honorable end.

The question is: When you meet people for the first time, what's the first impression you want them to have of you?

If your willing to pick a new handle and join us in Fallen Earth, we'd be happy to have you. If you get accepted, please post a list of all the toons you would like invited into the clan in this thread.

Good luck in whatever you decide and we'll see you in the wastes!

Ahhh yes, well touche' to that! You are correct in the observation and pinpoint of where a name like this would come from (yet I wasn't 16 at the time - more like 22). Back in the days of inception of my handle, there was not a single handle by the name of just "Cornbread." My handle originated with the gaming guild - Dead Presidents (www.dpguild.net). This organization was founded by literally a group of older truckers that loved to play RTCW and other FPS games. So put truckers with language, and to fit in with a really ruckous bunch of guys, this was used as a play on words/spelling. That guild is strictly 21+ with very limited exceptions due to the type of language/images that one may see. I never was into all that, but I was heavily into gaming and wanted an older audience to group with. Sometimes sacrifices need to be made right?

Come to find out after QuakeCon 2004 that these guys (and gals) were just normal hard working average people; people that were older and ostricized or annoyed by the younger crowd of gamers. They just wanted to play games, have fun, chat it up on TS, and make fun memories with their m8s around the world. So after meeting people all over the globe, the handle stuck - naturally - because it was a catchy, never used, play on spelling.. and it fit the group. Later, as I progressed into NWN and NWN2 and then becoming said GM previously mentioned, I grew to eventually hosting a server, etc. My name stuck with many many people, as I was about to find out in 2006.

It was about this time that I realized that maybe the handle wouldn't work for everyone due to its nature. I agree with you there. It had its purpose and time and place... and perhaps those memories long ago created are still near and dear to my online corporeal being. Be that as it may, when I started to seek an alternative - just "Cornbread," well... it seems I had a following of sorts or perhaps sparked a trend because even today, its impossible to use "Cornbread" as a handle nearly anywhere - including my online bank if you can believe that! Gmail, yahoo, hotmail, American Airlines, and at least a dozen other sites already have a registered user as "Cornbread," yet my current handle is never used (for well pointed obvious reasons I suppose). Well, you can imagine my frustration - wanting to end the phalic name and go clean with just a single bullet, but what can one do when so many people have already beaten the name into a blood pulp on every site known to man?

Alas, I have been left with frustration. How do you tell one who is tied to a handle for so long to simply change when their hands are bound like a forgotten dog in an abandoned warehouse? If I could be Cornbread - just Cornbread - I would be in agreeance to a change. The obsession has spilled over to even my real life - vanity plate and all. If the name is already taken, it seems rather cliche' to add an X at the end or number sequence when, well... without being conceited, I was the original Cornbread of Cornbreads.

In any case, if it comes to be that I cannot join because of my handle or lack of available alternate mentioned above, then so be it. I would dearly enjoy the opportunity to play with you all, but in the end, its not so important to be part of a larger whole by name, but by the friendships that bind us. I feel that already I have made connections with three of the members here, despite not being a member.

If nothing else, we could always group in game even if I am not a member. My game handle for Fallen Earth is Angelica Vezina (it is my one (and only) toon).

You are correct in your assumption that plain Cornbread would be taken. TOG has an active member called CornBREAD. Names are case sensitive so I could change your name to Cornbread and you'd be different to the database, but confusingly similar to everyone else.

How about:

PhCornbread? PhrknCornbread? P Cornbread? PnCornBread? The CornBread? Or some other non-trucker based combination.

Most people don't read the middle letters of words. They look at the shape of the word. So a small addition or subtraction would leave your known friends in the light.

Cheers

Or even Cornbred? (as in "born and bred")

Hmmm I wouldn't mind being confusingly similar, it would actually fit with my mysterious nature and random oddness. Besides, would CornBREAD be as articulate as Cornbread? A comparison for the great writers and thinkers of TOG I suppose.

To be perfectly honest, I am not a forum spamming whore. I used to be back in the day, but have since relinquished that title to others. So I doubt there would really be much confusion.

If the angelic database would be so kind as to let it slide, I think I would be happy with it as well.

Seems I have attracted a great many viewers and moderators. Though I am not a spamming forum whore anymore, perhaps I am becoming quite the moderator attention whore? I am quite entertained by my own thread it seems.

Ciao
