Application for TOG and Fallen Earth
Hello everyone!
Here's my application to join The Older Gamers, especially as part of the fantastic Fallen Earth community!
I thought I would present it as an attractive yet informative Q & A...by cunningly using the letters 'Q' and 'A' several times. In fact if this was Sesame Street, the aforementioned letters would have brought this show to you
Anyway, without further ado...
Q. What games are you currently play/looking to play with TOG?
A. Well, as stated above, I'm currently playing Fallen Earth, which is where I spend most of my time at the moment. I don't have a lot of free time to play multiple games concurrently, but I'm certainly looking forward to flying some Federation starships in the near future in Star Trek:Online (the USS Dark Star is going to kick ass...as long as the crew can focus on their stations ), and perhaps also taking out a few fighters in Jumpgate:Evolution (should it ever see the light of day!).
Also I'm keen to try out Stargate Worlds (again if it makes it to release). I may also jump back into Champions Online, should FE ever get boring (although not much chance of that!) So there's quite a few on my radar, and I hope TOG will be well-represented in all of them!
Q. What was the first gaming console you own or pen and paper game you played?
A. I started off with a Sinclair ZX Spectrum back in about 1984. It had 48k of RAM! How could they ever fill that up? I still remember playing Valhalla and Lords of Midnight, and becoming so amazingly immersed in them. Yes, I could almost imagine myself as a Scandanavian stick man, for those of you who remember it
I went on to a Commodore 64, and then an Amiga 1200, and then onto PC games. I bought an Xbox but never really got into console gaming. So now I regularly upgrade my PC at home to make sure it's fit for the 'next big thing' in gaming. Which is currently every week
In terms of PnP games, I was introduced to Advanced Dungeons & Dragons at the tender age of 18, and have never looked back! I've been a dedicated player of Cyberpunk (original & 2020), Champions, Runequest, ST:RPG, SpaceMaster, RoleMaster, Middle Earth RPG, Star Hero, Paranoia, Vampire: The Masquerade, and several others. When I can, I still like to roleplay the way the Gods originally intended, but those opportunities are becoming rarer, sadly, mainly due to a lack of players. These online games are a curse as well as a blessing, you know!
Q. Why do you want to join TOG?
A. Well, sadly, though 'Teh Interwebs' was a marvellous invention, it does mean that it's difficult to moderate other people's behaviour, and some people are just...well...fools, and there's only so much Barrens Chat I can put up with
So I say, if there's a place I can go where the community is more mature (and by that I don't mean 'boring'), it's going to cut a lot of that less desirable stuff out, which means my blood pressure stays at a nice steady level, and I live to pay next months broadband fees! So I am actually doing my ISP a favour by joining up
Q. Tell us about yourself or anything else you'd like to share.
A. Well, I'm 39, I live in New Zealand, just north of Auckland, but work in the city. I am extremely lucky in that I don't have to work all the time, so when I am at home I split my time between tending the garden, playing games and avidly watching message boards
Q. Some idea of your geographical location and the times that you play will also help.
A. As above, I am in New Zealand, which is currently UTC+13 hours. I play mostly from about 3pm onwards, usually Tuesdays, Thursdays and weekends. Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays are usually my sci-fi DVD nights - just finished BSG season 4, now onto Firefly and Serenity again, and soon I'll be watching Farscape seasons 1-5 and PKWars for what must be the fifteenth time! Of course, I can always be persuaded to forgo watching a DVD for a special cause...
Sorry I rambled on so much. It's how I roll
Anyways, that's me, signing off!
