Hey Folks,
RexCelestis checking in.
What games are you currently play/looking to play with TOG?
I saw the forum posting at the Champions Online site. That's what got my attention. Now that I've taken a look around, I will likely find a few other games where I would like to participate.
What was the first gaming console you own or pen and paper game you played?
I owned an Atari from before they were called the 2600. The first P&P must have been D&D.
Why do you want to join TOG?

I'm Rex, a 41 year old native and resident of Chicagoland. I currently work in a mixed project management, business analyst, software developer role for the 17th largest law firm, globally. I entered the private sector after 5 years teaching in Japanese and American middle schools. My wife and I own and operate a successful day care,
Got Tots Inc., in the western suburbs.
I come to Champions Online after years of experience as an RP-er and two years in CoH. The amazing character creator and the fact that I found good RP with 30 minutes of play now have me totally hooked.
Strange but true:
1. I cannot, for the life of me, play an instrument and sing at the same time; not even maracas. I've never taken the time or exerted the effort needed to develop that skill. I find this odd as I've been a performing, paid musician on and off for almost 30 years.
2. I joke that turning forty was easier than turning thirty. At thirty I gained thirty pounds and started to lose my hair, almost overnight. At forty, I had lost the weight and started shaving my head. That’s all true, but forty was still a very, very rough year.
3. My first wife proposed to me in a series of postcards while she was living in Victoria and I in Japan. Sent over a series of days, they combined like a puzzle to spell out “I <3 You” in light trails. The back each card slowly asked "Will... You... Marry... Me?" The last read, “Please say yes. I love you so much.” They arrived in the wrong order and one took three days longer to reach me than the others. It was the most romantic gesture anyone ever made towards me and I treasure that memory.
4. My personal, physical comic collection contains about 10,000 books. It includes some notable stories: the first appearance of Black Panther, full runs of Sandman, Birds of Prey, and Strangers in Paradise, the original "monthly" run of Watchmen. The most valuable book in the lot just happens to be The Adventures of Rex the Wonder Dog #1, given to me by a customer while I was managing a comic shop. I add 20~30 comics each month and I read them all.
My virtual collection is about 12,000 books. I haven’t read all of them, yet.
5. I started collecting action figures as an adult right after my first wife and I separated. It was a "me" thing to do and I felt that I had denied myself for a long time. Saturday morning runs to the toy store were not an unusual "date" for Bonnie and I. We would track down certain new and vintage GI Joe. I appreciated the acceptance and willingness to do things together.
My current collection includes a set of GI Joe Adventure Team figures and vehicles, four original GI Joe's from 1964 wearing uniforms from each branch of the services, and about 20 of the recent 13" DC Direct super-hero action figures.
Specifically about RP, City of Heroes, and Champions Online:
1. I've been role playing in various forms for almost 30 years. I started in D&D and quickly branched into other systems: Traveller, Gamma World, Champions, Call of Cthulhu, Cyberpunk, etc. I started playing World of Darkness in 1992 while a friend of mine was working for White Wolf. I consider running a 10 yeah WoD chronicle one of my greatest achievement in terms of RP, storytelling, character development, and just good times with friends. It's the bar that I measure other gaming experiences against. It's also the reason I will not likely play a WoD game ever again.
You can see some of the work the players and I created for that chronicle at
And Here Our Trials Began and the sequel
Where There Is Smoke.
2. I worked in comic and game stores all through university and managed a shop in the Loop while attending grad school. I have some of the same clients now as an IT guy as I did as a comics dealer.
3. I got into City of Heroes after meeting two Cape DJ's and three other players at GenCon 2007. Playing City of Heroes has been great fun for me, much more than I expected out of the game. It's like RP crack, nearly always available with very little preparation. Its greatest strength and weakness is the large diversity of players it brings together. I've made some true "Real Life" friendships and met some people that I hope I never see in person, all in the same game.
4. I've actually met, in person, two CoH players that were older than me. One told me how happy he was to get his first lvl 50 while he was still 50.
5. I've just started a Deadlands, tabletop campaign. I know very little about the American West in the 19th Century. The research has been a lot of fun. The interest has been better than expected and I have 12 players signed up. Anyone in the area interested in assisting me in GM duties?
6. My current boss is an avid WoW player. He looks to his guild when we have positions open at the firm and has actually hired at least one member. He insists that I take off double XP weekends and teased me mercilessly when I worked through the last one. Yes. I am liking my job.
I'm on Facebook if anyone cares to look me up.
