Greetings,
I've been playing computer games since I was pre-teen; my first computer was the family's Tandy
TRS-80 Colour Computer. I got my first PC (IBM-XT) in 1990 when I started Uni, and have been stuck on the upgrade curve ever since. I owned a Nintendo Wii for a while, but have found that my preference is for PC-based games.
I've enjoyed story-based FPS, working through the solo content rather than multi-player. My favourites in that genre are Deux Ex and Half-life. While I played the early RTS games (Warcraft II, Command and Conquer, Starcraft), I seem to have lost interest in them. I suspect the release of Starcraft 2 may change that.
I very much enjoyed Diablo and Diablo II, and will definitely be picking up Diablo III when I comes out.
While I dabbled with MUDs while at Uni, I never got into them seriously. Subsequently I was too wrapped up in work to play such games, even though I was tempted by what they'd evolved into (MMOs like Everquest). There was also the fear that I'd become overly invested in such games if I ever did succumb to temptation.
However, after listening to many gaming podcasts, and with a lightening workload (as my work/life balance returned to normal), I finally decided to give MMOs a try. I took a brief look at LOTRO, but it failed to grab my attention. I then tried the World of Warcraft free trial, starting it a couple of weeks before the WotLK expansion was released... and have never looked back. I initially played on Alliance-side Proudmoore (my main is Aeonel, a resto/feral DPS druid). I was lured to the Horde when a favourite podcast of mine,
Bind on Equip, started a guild on Horde-side Jubei'Thos. I joined
Pants on Head in October 2009 with another druid, Teors (resto/boomkin), and remain a happy member of that friendly, easy-going community.
I'd like to become a part of the TOG community, which I have only heard good things about. It seems like a well-respected group of mature gamers that I'd be honoured to associate with. Its sheer size and reach is amazing to behold; it seems that no matter where my gaming tastes take me, TOG will be there.
