My Application
Hello TOG,
Let me start by introducing myself. I will then give you my gaming experience and finally, I will tell you why I want to join you fine organization.
[Introductions]
My name is David, I am 34 years old, an I.T. Technician (what a stretch). I work for the local helpdesk of Toyota in Baltimore Maryland, on the east coast of the United States. I enjoy playing online RPGs. I play during my free time - weekends and when I have Mondays or Fridays off. I play Mortal Online, which, as I understand, started fully (non-beta) in June. So far, I see there are lots of veterans since apparently beta has been out for a couple of years.
When I was younger (in my 20s) I played UO. I remebered playing the classic Ultima on my Apple IIe and enjoyed skill building and dungeon exploring (despite the 2D graphic; that's why we have imagination). On UO, I played on the Pacific Server (I think they called it a shard if I am not mistaken). The game was fun for me until they introduced PVP. Then I remembered how suddenly, there were lots of PKers. Yes, some would argue that the game is just like real life where you have to defend yourself from other but come on the game is not "real life" I remember they introduced some system where you were someone's vassal; kind of like their slave. Recently, someone told me that UO introducted a separate server for non PVP; I probably would have stayed on for that. Anyway, I am glad I left, UO left a bad taste in my mouth.
Recently, I was looking at an ad for Dungeons and Dragons Online when I stumble on the ad for MO. The sandbox thing is part of the reason why I bought the game and joined. So far I have not gotten bored with the game. They recently introducted theivery and I believe that is just another aspect of the game to contend with. I don't like it when, seeing players (mostly youngsters), exploit bugs. Things like blocking doors, calling pets, names of
the actual creature they are so if you hit it you are flagged; and, recently I was a victim of the pet taming exploit where someone would tame a pet set it aggressive and then tranfer it to me where I was killed by "Lictor" guard *(of course a patch fixed this).
Let me give you my philosophy on RPGs and tell you how I like to play. To me, there are 2 types of players -
you have the fighters, the mages (including tamers), and the archers (let them all kill each other I say). Then you have the crafters who support them. My character in UO was a shield builder; I would chop wood, craft shields and sell them to the npc vendor. With my money I would buy some armor that I sold to other players cheap. I would sometimes sell off until I had nothing left because I knew that if I ventured outside of town I would be PK'd and get my stuff looted.
[Playing Mortal Online]
My character's name is "Addonexus" which, in Latin, means "Bringer of Death" but don't worry I am no Lucifer or Satan. I like to help people out whenever I can. My character is a Kallard that has all of the soft armor skill high or maxed. I have the skill mostly maxed for - Heavy Robe, Khurite Scout, and working on Kallardian padded. I am starting to get into Laminated Armor crafting. I have the knowlege of Animal Skin (Full grain, and boiled), Scale Leptoid, Keeled), Some Metals which I have not used; and finally dentistry - (emalj). Mostly, I would hang out in Vadda, but there are too many Reds (PKers) hanging out in the woods just outside of town. In fact, I traveled to Febernum, and in the process, got killed. I only had all soft armor on and no money (the Red got away with a full Scout of fullgrain leather (ouch).
Also,I have another character "Morpheous" who is an archer; but, I am not sure I want to keep playing this character. He is a Huergar that is not very bright (low int), but has high Str and 100 archery and can craft simple bow - short (Asymetric, Self) all of the wood knowlege and horn (compact and normal). Also, got skill for weapon crafting (handle & poles, and dagger). He has riding skill and owns 2 steppe horse which are both stuck in Bakti (thanks to destoryable bridges).
[My Application/request to join]
I would like to join TOG for 1 simple reason - I need someone to conversate with in the game. I remember trying to strike up a conversation with someone and they told me "piss off" I told him, "f' you too" and he said "will do" What a jerk I was for trying to be friendly. I am not looking for any hand outs. I would like to discuss with someone, who is a master crafter, to share their knowlege of armor crafting and I would also like to create (and or sell) stuff for the guild.
Please consider me or I would just have to go to WoW (oh wait, that game is for children; I mean, come on, they have to use "Mr. T" to advertise).
Thank You,
Dave (RL)
