Hey all.
Just found out about TOG from a chum I introduced to Guild Wars and then WoW, and now he's had his revenge by persuading me to try Lotro.
Mostly playing WoW and looking to play Lotro to avoid levelling another WoW toon. Began WoW 4 years ago, have 6 L80s on EU-Lightbringer. 2 are Kingslayers and 3 more are about halfway through ICC. Don't play the warlock much as he is dull. I ilike playing the arcane mage because it's easy and I can get near top of meters

, and I say that because ... all my other toons are healers: holy priest, resto druid, holy pala and resto shammy. I end-game raid a lot, have been GM and officer for years (not now though) and I love healing on different classes and seeing how it feels on challenging content. Needless to say my Lotro toon is a healer. I tried tanking on my pala and my druid and I truly suck at it. Ditto melee.
Games: started with ZX81. Got very frustrated with games on cassette. Had the wobbly 16k RAM pack and all, and even the little thin printer that used heat to print on sensitive paper. The kids today don't know they're born. Went on to an Amstrad 6128 and then an early PC and wasted huge amounts of cash over the years on games good and bad. Don't much like first-person shooters, got no spatial awareness (see "suck at tanking", above), so always more enjoyed the strat games such as Baldur's Gate. Bravely tried Guild Wars in the early parts of this millenium and enjoyed it for a while, also introduced my son to it (then about 12, now 19). Started to hate the juvenilia after a while, but before I got to that point was GM of a raiding guild and then leader of an alliance of guilds, albeit not too successful. Have now ruined my son's life by introducing him to WoW. My wife blames me for his crappy A-level results.
Wow trapped me in 2006, fantastic game. Looking forward to new content with Cataclysm. Have been trying Lotro recently and I'm interested to see the differences.
Why do I want to join TOG? Well, it's neat to know that there are so many similarly-minded fogies playing these games. My WoW guild is pretty similar (we restrict to18+), and for similar reasons. I'm hoping especially to get to know some of you in Lotro, indeed my chum (don't know his forum name) recommended you as such. The idea of a meta-community beyond individual games and gaming is appealing.
