hey hey TOG
hi TOG readers/moderators
I'm Michael "Toliman" Guy, 31, an avid gamer, so much so that i've recently put myself into a full-time games design course at QANTM, which is a bit of a bright note, otherwise it's quite brutal on my gaming-related time.
I've known about TOG for about 2 years on and off, but mostly it was brought to my attention through listening to Bind on Equip as tempeste is often mentioning TOG and i've seen members of TOG lootzors in WoW, that have said hello, /wave'd, etc. i've been on OCAU and whirlpool much much longer though.
as far as my background in games, my first game console was a commodore vic 20, and later my mom's Apple IIc, so i guess i weaned myself through early reading, arithmetic and programming via acorn/bbc micro/archimedes systems and by hitting my head against 90s adventure games.
the first game i bought was space quest 3, i distinctly remember spending a lot of time playing duke nukem 3D over a 14.4k modem, and then dark forces 2, so naturally i progressed to MMOs pretty quickly once they came out as well, having joined a guild in the early everquest days and dark age of camelot, but i found both to be a pretty oppressive campaign on my time as i went, everquest past about level 40 became brutal in the early days. i just especially recall laughing my head off as someone running away from a giant in north ro, camouflaged themselves into a bunk bed on the beach in front of me, (i think i still have the screenshots somewhere.) but EQ was fun, for what it represented.
so, it kind of defines your life when people often think about how long they've been online, having had an email address since 1995, and working in an internet help desk for 2 years can probably be best described as being inextricably and indelibly changed by technology.
i don't especially have a compelling reason to join, other than to find like-minded people, and to socialise, discuss and gather in games other than world of warcraft, if opportunity or some new game comes along that i'd like to try with people who are (arguably) less pretentious or zealous, and more casual .
but i'll see how that goes when it comes to it. as other PoH members would attest, i'm pretty {insert descriptive word of choice here} //
