Hi, all.
My name's Will, and wizen is the phonetic pronunciation of my first 3 initials, W.S.N.. I chose
wizen as my online moniker because I've always been an old man at heart; indeed, my wife jokes that she's married the oldest 29 year old in the world. That... might be the case.
It's late and it's thanksgiving tomorrow, so I may be by during the day to perhaps spruce up this post. As it is, you're likely going to be getting me at my finest; honest to the point of fault, blunt to the point of ... well, no point, because I'm blunt. I made a funny which, no doubt, will seem far less funny tomorrow morning.
Time for a standard application form a non-standard fellow.
Why do you want to join TOG?
I'm seeking not just a guild / clan, but a community. As a mature gamer, it's simply no longer appropriate for me to stay up all hours of the night forging deep friendships with 16 year olds. This is a fact that made itself clear as I was putzing around in minecraft smp, showing my build to teenagers in the hopes of getting promoted to builder. I thought nothing of it, but my wife pointed out why, precisely, I wasn't having much fun. I've since left my creation (including a rather large castle w/ chrono trigger rune, completely concealed 4 level indoor farm, teleporter hub, cache of supplies and network of edge of map mines) behind in search of greener fields. Not just for minecraft, but for people who don't feel the need to toss around the word rape like it's a funny thing, or show up underage and drunk and make an arse of themselves, or any of that astoundingly immature stuff. Don't get me wrong, I can be as inappropriate as the next guy, but I recognize that there's a point at which enough's enough. I'm an adult and I don't have time for stupid bull crap to get in the way of me enjoying a game.
But, I'm rambling. On to the next point.
What games are you currently play/looking to play with TOG?
Any, really. My favorite TF2 server recently went belly up, and I"ve developed a fondness for Alien Swarm, as well. I own quite a few of today's more popular MMOs, though as I lack a solid community to play with, I don't currently have any active accounts. I'm most eagerly awaiting SWtOR, Guild Wars 2, Firefall and Everquest Nex and, maybe, WoW's Cataclysm. I will, of course, narrow my selection later on, after more information is available.
What was the first gaming console you own or pen and paper game you played?
The first that I owned was an NES, in 1989 in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. The first that I played was an Atari, though I'm not sure of the model - it belonged to a friend, in the aforementioned city.
The first PnP game I played was AD&D's 2nd edition, technically. I was a paladin in a short lived play by IRC game. The first edition I played quasi-seriously was 3.5e, and I'm a licensed DM for 4e. I'm currently running a PbP game at 4e.helphelpimbeingrepressed.net, and am looking for a 3.5 / Pathfinder game locally.
Tell us about yourself or anything else you'd like to share.
My ambition is to own a game development studio, and to advance game creation as an art form and legitimate form of entertainment. My dream is to create a large scale cyberpunk / high fantasy social class based MMO using a sustainable business model and featuring rewarding gameplay, tied in to real world activities via mobile devices.
Hey, if I'm gonna dream, it's gotta be big.
I'm 29 years of age, I've been married for just under a year and before that was with her for 5 years, and I have a pet dog (Puff), cat (Lux) and rabbit (Yuna). I'm ex military, I enjoy singing and percussion instruments, and I'd like to learn to play the piano. During downtime at work, I work on my design for a D&D setting with the goal of social change.
If you'd like to know anything more, I'd be more than happy to answer.
