Here are some suggestions for your introduction post:

  1. What games are you currently play/looking to play with TOG?
  2. What was the first machine you played games on or pen and paper game you played?
  3. Why do you want to join TOG?
  4. Tell us about yourself or anything else you'd like to share.

Some idea of your geographical location and the times that you play will also help. These things can also be entered in your USER CP (top left corner of screen). Updating this information allows people to know where you are in the world and helps coordinate events.

Hi folks - I'm Dave, also known online as Lexifab. Despite what you must think, that's short for lexifabricographer, a word I made up for someone who makes up words rather than find out whether there's already one that does the same job. Yeah, yeah, I know, but I used to think it was amusing.

I've been playing pen and paper RPGs since the early 80's when I got a D&D Basic boxed set (the one with the sweet Erol Otus cover, not the Elmore one from a couple of years later). My early computer gaming experiences were with Apple IIe games in the high school science lab - Wizardry and Aklabeth, mostly - but I really picked up the bug with C64 and Amiga games. Elite, Bubble Bobble and Wings, man, they were great games.

I want to join TOG because with a family with 2 very young kids and a wife who won't put up with being a WoW widow again, I fit the profile. I've been playing a lot of pickup games of TF2 lately, and the TOG server - when I can get on - is a really fun environment. Well, except for that map with the houses of cards and the dice everywhere - I hate that one. Friendly people who like playing competitively but don't feel the need to be off-puttingly aggressive and abusive, especially towards noobs? Yeah, I'm there, if you'll have me.

Like I said I'm mostly playing Team Fortress 2 at the moment, but I did just pick up Borderlands on the Steam sale so I want to give that a run as well.

Oh, I'm in Canberra, I'm a public servant and with my perishingly small amounts of free time I write speculative fiction, invest in property and do as much on- or offline gaming as I can get away with.

Cheers

Welcome to TOG.

Man I so love Wings and still fire up the old Amiga on occassion to fly over the trenches straffing the jerry and dog fighting with Richtofen's flying circus.

I assume you have played Sid Meier's Pirates before. If you like that sort of game, then think about joining us in Pirates of the Burning Sea (PotBS).

As the TOG Society Leader for PotBS, we are relaunching the division to coincide with the change to Free to Play business model.

Joining now means you get in at the ground floor of what I expect will be a fun filled active game division with lots to do.

I expect to start a new character playing group (max of 6 per group) to jointly play through the starter missions.

Initially PvE groups for missions and eventually open sea PvP once we reach the max level cap of 50 and equip ourselves with the best ships in the game.

Initially we will be focussing on a Pirate Society on Antigua (US peak playtime) server.

With a non-TOG sanctioned group playing on Roberts (European peak playtime) server as French nationals until we have enough players to establish our own economic supply chain for cost effective production of ships and consumeables for society members.

So check out this link if you want to know more about PotBS
http://www.theoldergamers.com/forum/pirates-burning-sea/329558-read-first-pirates-burning-sea-guide.html#post2958152

And post your forum name and ingame avatar name on our sign up list for the Pirate faction on Antigua (US peak playtime) once you have downloaded the game and signed up to play for free via the Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) launcher 3.

I recommend that later if you are serious about playing longer term you pay US$14.99 for a one month subscription so you can get access to a full account which does not limit you to max of two ships, two dockyards and two character slots and force you to pay for everything.

By subbing for one month you become a Premium Player so get the same privileges as a former returning player gets who doesn't currently subscribe to the monthly fee (Captain's club).

Note that it doesn't matter what time zone you are in as initially you will be levelling up via PvE missions so you will be mainly grouping with Society members, so although we are Australian based society, we have members from the US and UK playing this game, so you are likely to find someone online whenever you feel like playing some PotBS.

All the Best

Ace
Society Leader for TOG Pirates of the Burning Sea game division.

Hi Ace

Ooh, that's pretty tempting. I forgot about Pirates! One of the early games that I played over and over again (along with Railroad Tycoon and Civilisation - what a Sid Meier fanboy!)

I played a bit of PotBS when it first came out and enjoyed it - but I couldn't justify playing that and WoW and LotRO at the same time, so I dropped it. Even now I would not be able to play other than pretty casually, but it is quite tempting to take another look at Burning Sea. I will check it out ad see if I can manage to cram it in to my schedule somewhere.

Cheers
