My introduction
Hello good folk.
I'm Dave, an oldish gamer.
It was 1980 when I saw a news item on television talking about a game called Dungeons and Dragons, I was 15 at the time and remember it grabbing my attention like nothing else (slight exaggeration), it hasn't let go since. I twisted mum's arm to "lend" me the money to buy the Basic D&D boxed set and read it from cover to cover repeatedly over the next few months trying to figure out how it worked. I joined the local wargamers association and since then have followed fantasy and sci-fi roleplay games in both the pen and paper and computer products.
My first computer was an Apple 2 clone playing Wizardry versions, then an Amiga 2000 playing Eye of The Beholder etc and Windows platforms since then. We starting hooking-up online with Diablo but have also played many of the stand-alone titles. Neverwinter Nights was where we were able to really continue our D&D fun. Some of us had kids which substantially curtailed our PnP life.
About 6 of us where eventually led to DDO which we've been playing almost exclusively since it came out and have greatly enjoyed it. We've now mostly switched to LOTRO for a new experience. I have never played WoW, I'm sure it's a good game but there a few aspects that have kept me away. Not the least of which is the "griefing" that I have heard about and downright unsociable behaviour ; )
I've applied for membership with ToG for several reasons, mostly to feel part of a group with similar play style, vintage and common goals. Also a larger group may enable me to see some of the end-game content which has been difficult to fulfill with smaller guilds in DDO. I hope I can contribute to ToG or at least be a helpful, friendly member to team up with or to assist others.
See you in Middle Earth : )
Regards, Dave
