Default App for membership

Figured I would put in an application.

Games you are currently playing or wish to play with TOG

Well, I've been putting in a fair number of years in Eve Online, off and on since beta. I also do a bit of browser games such as Tribal Wars and Grepolis to distract me as I work. I'm looking for new games to join in on with a group rather than just randomly blundering about. I greatly prefer strategy and teamwork games.

Information about yourself

Not much to say. I'm a (very) applied anthropologist, an independent insurance agent, a business consultant and entrepreneur. I've learned in my three years since graduation to never turn down a revenue stream, and I try to help show others how to weather this horrid economy we have stateside as best as I can.

Information about your gaming history

I really can't name the first game I played. It was on some system that hooked into the TV and there was a baseball game on it that I "played" by answering math questions. There may have been an audio cassette tape drive associated with it. A couple years later, a babysitter would bribe me into behaving by promising to let me play her Atari one weekend a month at her place. My father started buying real computers but it was several years later that I found the Ultima series with Ultima 5. I picked up the classic Sierra AD&D games like Pool of Radiance, and that transitioned me into pen and paper games in my high school days. When I went to college in 1994, I was introduced to the World of Darkness, LARPing and MUDs. I ditched too many classes for MUDs and flunked out of school but kept LARPing in a game that ran for ten years. I also started playing Warhammer 40K and Starfleet Battles. One of the LARPers opened a cyber cafe and it was there that I was introduced to Eve Online while it was in beta, as well as RTS games. Eve helped me overcome my math phobia and really honed my Microsoft Office skills with massive spreadsheets, and I returned to college in 2004. Once I graduated in 2008 I stopped playing Eve full time as players I knew drifted away and I started sampling other games out there, but found it damned near impossible to get into them. Every other game I sampled lacked the complexity of Eve as well as the community I remembered. The challenge of health and life insurance was nothing compared to Warhammer 40K and the old Starfleet Battles game; my years of Eve taught me how to see opportunity and put together multiple revenue streams; and my decade of LARPing taught me how to seek out people with specific, diverse skills, discover their motivations and use that to build a small, successful team. All the fancy book learning can't hold a candle to what a gaming education can give, outside of technical and scientific areas. Today, I have dreams of a multichannel gaming company, but what true gamer does not? In a year or two, I may even be able to launch one if my cash flow continues to grow the way it s.

Why you'd like to join TOG

I'm finding that with the increased diversity in gaming channels and varieties, I need to be more focused in my gaming. There are too many distractions, too many low-quality games, and too many others who are out to just troll games for the lulz (as Sony has found). I'm looking for a gaming home that can help me figure out how to spend that time and provide a basis for good teams in game without sorting through all the lists of random alliances.

Anything else you'd like to share

Do you really want to read more words? 'Cause I am spent.
