I'm semi-in-between MMOs currently. Most recently I'd been playing Final Fantasy XIV (since release last year), but the pace of the game's redevelopment and lack of content have led me (at the very least) to take a break, so I'm looking for something else. I came across a link to TOG when looking at Perpetuum, although potentially Mortal Online looks possibly appealing as well.
In short, I'm looking for a new time sink, but am giving more consideration to the community in addition to just the gameplay.
In terms of gaming history, it's a tie between playing D&D with my older brother and playing Pitfall on the Atari 2600, back when I was in the 2nd grade. Funny story, but I actually bugged my mom to teach me how to multiply two 2-digit numbers together in order to play D&D.
I've had my moments for sure enjoying MMOs over a long period of time. However, over time it's gotten more and more difficult for me to cope with the attitude and immaturity I see in MMOs. I find it especially difficult as an older female gamer, to the point where I am finding myself less social and outgoing as a consequence. I'm hopeful that TOG will provide a better community where I don't feel so much like I have to hide myself
My style of gaming is generally a bit more analytic and methodical. I have a degree in Mathematics -- and I actually took the degree because it's a subject I enjoy, not because I felt I needed to for advantage. I tend to also be quite a bit of an explorer in games, both searching out and finding new areas and things to see, as well as digging in and understanding game mechanics. I very much not a hard-core PvPer. I do enjoy games with depth and meaning and consequences, but many such games seem to devolve into continual ganking and constant meaningless virtual killing.
I currently live on the west coast of the U.S., down in sunny So Cal. I'm currently on leave from work for a while (long story, which I won't go into details here), so my playtime covers most hours of the day. I'm sure I'll be returning to work in a few months, at which point I'll be playing just on evenings and weekends.
Anyhow, hopefully that gives enough information about me. Please feel free to ask me any additional questions you'd like (although I won't promise to answer

)
