Hey folks,
I am Mike. I live in the Netherlands and I am 37 years old. That makes me an older gamer although not one that has a busy job or a family. I do work (as a social worker with mentally handicapped young adults) but since I work 16 hour night shifts I usually only work 2-3 nights a week allowing me to spend a lot of time on my other interests namely gaming, movies, books, music and sports (geocaching, inline skating and climbing).
I am an avid user of steam so I'm mostly joining TOG because of their steam community. I would love to make some new friends to play games with.
I am not really a competitive player but I do love co-op games or games where I can play supportive roles. The games that come to mind are Left4Dead 2 and Brink. I play L4D2 about 2-3 times a week with my real-life friends. It is mostly a social event where we use skype while playing. Since one of our players is quite inexperienced we have started playing the campaigns on easy and are now moving on to normal. With a good group I can tackle advanced and I have played some missions succesfully on expert.
I just got Brink as part of the QuakeCon package (great deal!) and although I am usually not a big fan of massive PVP slugfests I really like playing a medic, patching up and buffing my teammates. For the first time in my gaming history I am ranking up top 3 positions!
Besides Brink and L4D2 I also love Civilization V, RPGs, strategy games, platformers, adventures and I especially love artsy games like Limbo and Braid. So, I pretty much like any kind of game besides sports and racing.
Gaming history: Ive been a D&D player for most of my life. I still play regularly. I also own a heap of boardgames (mostly RPG/Strategy). I started digital gaming somewhere in the 80's on my old C64. Moved on the Amiga, and played on or owned most consoles. Although I really like my PS3 I am - at heart - a dedicated PC gamer.
Other interests: I am a huge movie buff (my DVD library is growing out of control!), I love good TV shows (HBO, AMC etc) and documentaries, books, making music, listening to music, graphic novels, hiking, animals.
Anyways, this is turning out to be a long winded introduction post..
Have a nice day and feel free to add me on steam!
Mike
