Enquiry to join the merry band!
Greetings all!
While playing Perpetuum today I bumped into The Omen in the help channel while helping me on a mining issue. After a chat on Teamspeak and read over the forums about TOG and what it all stands for I now find myself here to request membership!
So about myself, my real name is Merlijn (tough to properly pronounce in English but Merlin is near enough) and I'm currently enjoying the final months of my 20's at the lovely age of 29. I live in the Netherlands together with my girlfriend, 1 dog and 2 cats. This coming february I will become a dad for the first time. As for hobbies beside the gaming and D&D described later I am a very outdoors type. I love hiking long distance trails, mountainbiking, I am a leader at a scouting group and so on. That's me in a nutshell really, but I'm open to more questions!
As for my first videogames, well at 29 my first videogames goes back to me being aged 5 or 6'ish. So back very far into vague memory. Our first computer was a ZX Spectrum (the one with the rubber keyboard!). The name of the games on it I can't remember I'm afraid. I know one was a type of Ladderman, one about a little guy gathering different parts of his spaceship to be able to leave again and so on.
From then onwards we always had a computer basically going up to a 286, 386, 486 onwards to the first pentiums.
Gamewise a few games that spring to mind are Colonization, Transport Tycoon, The Settlers, Diablo series, Baldur's Gate.
After that in the end of '99 I went into the MMO world with Everquest. From then onwards I played a lot of MMO's at least a few months or a trial to try. The one's I spent most time with though are EQ and then WOW. But other fairly major one's are DAoC, EQ2 and EVE.
Aside from that, being the nerd I am, I also played a bunch of pen and paper games. Starting with Vampire the Masquerade, D&D 3'rd when it came out and played that upwards to 3.5 and then 4'th edition. And currently still weekly playing Pathfinder.
My current membership is to Perpetuum only and I would like to apply to TOG for Perpetuum at the moment. I may get back into things like EVE or increase activity in WoT at some later date, but for now it's Perpetuum only that gets activity really.
As for my reason to apply for TOG, here's a short summing up of them:
- The very kind and helpful nature of the members in Perpetuum I stumbled upon leading me up here.
- The casual nature of it all. I have a job at irregular hours, I have a family with a child coming this february and I have other hobbies. I can't commit to fixed times of activity anymore, nor do I want to. I may have weeks where I'm on for several hours daily, diving fully into the game. And then there may be a week of just an hour or two, or no activity at all. From what I heard and read I am able to do just that here.
- The maturity of the entire group. Everyone here is 25+ obviously, all will understand what it's like to be gaming and still have work/family/real life to attend to. On top of that I expect the behaviour to be a lot more mature. No "Check out my uber l33t lazors dude!", but a mature group of people enjoying the journey instead of just striving to reach the destination of l33tness that drives most young people.
- A corporation to join, undoubtedly making the experience of Perpetuum a lot greater. And also possible helpful solutions to questions I may come across as I explore different aspects of the game.
Last but not least, my playing times. As mentioned before I work irregular hours. That means that I may be on at any timezone really. However my own timezone is GMT+1, and I will mostlty be on-line at European evenings. But while preparing for a nightshift I may very well be on-line in the middle of the night, or like today in the early morning before an afternoon shift.
Well that sums up just about everything that one would need to know I reckon. If there are any questions or things I missed don't hesitate to let me know!
