Gents,
Games playing now: BF3, Starcraft 2, Eve Online, LoL, TF2, Civ5, CoD2, UT2k4, STO, Minecraft and probably about 5 others that don't come immediately to mind. Looking forward to Diablo 3 and Mass Effect 3.
First games machine: An Atari 2600 clone my parents got me for Christmas when I was about 5 years old. The only game I got with it was Q-Bert and I played the arse off it. My favourite platform of all time would be the venerable C64 and I still like to fire up an emu from time to time and play some classic games or just listen to SID files.
Why TOG?: I'd been playing Eve Online on and off since 2004. About two years ago I just wasn't having any fun with the game and was about to give it away entirely. That's when by chance I discovered a player-run corp that was intended for older gamers. Their philosophy was: fun but mature gamesmanship combined with a relaxed culture and the understanding that real-life came first. When I joined at 30 I was one of the youngest guys in the corp and I found I really enjoyed the atmosphere that playing with older, more respectful gamers created.
So that brings me to a couple of days ago when I was idly looking through servers on BF3 and I saw the name "The Older Gamers". My interest was piqued and I did some Googling thinking I might be on to something similar. Sure enough; it was like discovering that awesome corp I still fly with in Eve Online all over again, only instead of that one game, TOG plays just about every game I love!
About me: I'm a 32 year old guy living in Adelaide, originally from Darwin. Unashamed nerd and a gamer. Over the years I've seen many of my former gaming buddies succumb to marriage, mortgage and children and these days I find it hard to really enjoy myself playing online among the unwashed masses of Tourettes/ADD suffering 13 year olds.
I definitely have a sweet tooth for some classic games and will occasionally be overwhelmed by sudden urges to play things like C&C1, Doom, Homeworld, UT or MOO2 and try to find as many people as possible to play them with me.
