Before we get to the meat of this (probably wall of text) I just wanted to say that I was very excited to find this group. I have long had issues with having to find a new Guild/League /Team/WhatHaveYou when I went from game to game. Even the possibility to find a group based around my general interests and that seem to share my attitude that plays many games was so exciting I actually went upstairs and told my wife!
Also please note that you said you wanted to get to know a future member better so this wall of text is really of your own doing.
- What games are you currently play/looking to play with TOG?
Right now I am playing DCUO as a hero which is where I found out about this group. So far I have went through about 4 alts creating and deleting my way to a character combination that I think feels fun. Right now that is a Gadgets/Acrobatics/Controller which I am finding to be a blast to play even if he cannot take a beating quite like my dearly deleted Fire tank could (may she rest in peace). That said I am going to have to make another Fire Tank after I subscribe because I think that really has the ability to be fun. Right now I am just trying new things to see what fits me but I feel that I will be keeping "Dark Truth" (the controller) because I have become a bit attached to him.
I am very interested in SWTOR and very much identified with inoshiro's post about the December Launch. Even though it appears that inoshiro is actually a couple of years older than I am, so I had to have my dad take me rather than going with a friend.
That said I do have some concerns about this one! I played SWG when it was new-ish where I had a lot of fun with my bounty hunter, got a bit burned out but came back strong for the Beast Master which then got utterly hosed by the "Changes to balance the game" and promptly left. Just not positive that they have learned their lessons from the first one but Really hoping that they have ... this I will just have to wait and see on.
Battlefield 3 I really want to get however Life and Work issues are preventing that right this second but that looks to change here in about a week or so. I did get into the Alpha and was going to play the Beta however with the issues I was having I felt that would be too much of a tease so I passed.
Fallout MMO, what can I say *sigh* if the court battle ever gets worked out I would love to check this one out. Unlike others I was fully behind the shift from the tactical game it was to a first person perspective. Mostly this is due to it being the environment and background that I fell in love with. Now don't get me wrong I still have Fallout and I love its play but I like the new style as well.
- What was the first machine you played games on or pen and paper game you played?
Actually the first one I believe was the Atari setup. Got that pretty early and had a lot of fun with things like Pong, Space Invaders, Pac Man (yeah I know it had issues), Hated E.T., and Yars Revenge ...oh my the list goes on and this was supposed to be first games anyway. That moved to a Commodore 64 and on and on from there.
I also got into Dungeons and Dragons which I had a lot of fun with, though we never dressed up or anything. Went into Advanced DnD later which I still have the DM screen for sitting on a shelf to my left as I type this.
- Why do you want to join TOG?
I am honestly tired of going from one group to another based on the game I am playing at the time. I want to find a group that I can share my love of "Games" with rather than "The game I am playing now" so this seems like a good fit for that part.
The other side that this also seems to fit is that its made up of the *cough* Older *Cough* crowd so when I mention something like Battle Chess or Yar's Revenge, or heck even the old Tape Drives you used to have to load your games with I don't get a "Wow! You really Are Old!" response. Well I still might it just won't be meant in quite the same way.
I have tried the "Hard Core" groups a few times since sometimes I do like the feel of a "Well Oiled Machine" that you get from a good group that knows their roles. Sadly this type usually turns out to Require so many hours a week as well as other things and ... well I already have a job that I enjoy so I don't need another. That combined with the fact that I think my wife may actually follow through on the threat of killing me if I join another, so it all works out.
Also those "HardCore" groups don't seem to understand the fun that is inherent in a good old "Drunken Dungeon Run" night. Setup I have ran with a couple groups where you have to have a couple drinks in you to go and all bets are off. Mini events like "Betcha I can Die First" or "Cause the Best Wipe Ever" can be mighty fun when your just looking to have a good time!
All about Sloth101 (or at least what he is willing to admit at this time)
Well I started out in Florida US and quickly went to Germany, now I don't remember this because I was Just old enough that my mom could take me over to let my dad see me for the first time. He was in the Army and was over seas when I was actually born.
We moved around a bit in south Florida and I have some memories going back that far. Though to be honest these are bits or even just impressions. For the most part this appears to be the point where I started attaching myself to my grandfather's hip...this continued for a long time and later I used to spend most summers with him. Of course that changed a bit once I hit the teenage years *sigh*.
I spent most of my growing up time in North Florida and ended up moving out on my own when I was 16. This was truly the first part of my "Wake Up" phase which continued when I joined the Navy for Desert Storm. I got a lot of flak from "friends" who could not understand why I would do that and trying to explain to them that I felt it was my Duty to didn't go very far. I basically found out that most of them didn't really understand that word at the time.
Now the military Duty and Travel were just fine but I still had issues with authority or even people making "dumb decisions" as I thought them to be. This continued until much to my surprise my "Authority issues" did Not end with a dishonorable discharge. I got my Honorable discharge and left.
I went through a few years of looking around for what I did not know and moved around a bit. Back in Florida I met my wife and my life actually began. We went through quite a bit of moving around after our first daughter and then had our second during that moving phase. Went through about 6 state to state moves since then mostly being the early days since we knew once they hit the upper middle school that the moving was not doing them any favors.
All and all I have been through a fair amount as well as a couple careers finally settling on IT after getting tired of hearing my wife (backed by my and her family) telling me to get into "Computers since I obviously loved them so much." That, over the years, has lead me to my current Linux System Engineering role which I still love.
I would list out the games that I have played but this is already a wall of text and honestly I have lost track of them all at this point. Suffice it to say that I started Gaming back in about 1977 and have stuck with it since that time.
Well I think that's enough to decide if I would be a good fit or not and this is turning out to be pretty long winded so I will end it with a few things that will generally sum me up (IMHO as always!):
Work Smarter Not Harder!
If I have done it more than once I need a script!
Beer is the fourth food group and don't let them tell you different!
Bacon is Happiness in solid form!
A Gamer is Born, not made.
Life is a Joke, you will get it in the end!
If your not having fun, You are doing it Wrong!
