Hi I'm Caiphus
When I used to play CS:S gungame a lot there were a lot of TOG players that were running around at the same time that I used to enjoy the banter of. We would all get sick of annoying douches playing the music from their speakers down their mics... oh those were the days.
I always wondered what TOG was but never got around to asking, it wasn't till today I was directed here when I was trying to find out about potential Oceanic servers for The Old Republic that I decided this seemed like a decent community to be a part of.
My real name is Phil, I live bayside in Brisbane and I've been gaming since I was a kid and would rock up to other kids I didn't like houses just so I could hog their commodore 64/atari 6800/Apple 2E (oh the shame) for hours until I eventually got told to go home. I didn't get my own gaming system until I was 10 in 1991 when my mum brought a NES back from Singapore with one of those pirate cartridges that had 191 games (many of them different hacked roms repeated) in one.
In 1992 my first PC was acquired, a 386SX and from there my affair had been converted to the beige box. I remember well the early years with commander keen and id & apogee platformers. RPGs were what really hooked me as I matured, especially dungeons and dragons based ones during the VGA renaissance. Eye of the Beholder II & Dark Sun: Shattered lands especially. I developed an interest for pen & paper role-playing games that saw me read countless source-books but never actually play having no friends that shared the interest. I think I have all my Paladium Games Robotech Source books stashed somewhere that I really wish that I could of played and would be up for giving it a bash in the future if anyone is interested.
RPGs & FIFA have been the main time sinks for me over the years. I get addicted to good stories, but ever since I picked up FIFA 98: Road to the World Cup I have been hooked on EA's crack (with a short dalliance with PES between 2005 & 2009). I'm pretty average at FPSs with the only one that I have put significant time into being CS:S, specifically gun-game.
Otherwise I'm on WoW, since around March 2005, playing mainly alliance (Mortlock, holy/ret paladin on Gorefiend in The Late Crew) where I played intermittently for the first couple of years but have been pretty consistent for the last 2 years since they introduced the random dungeon finder. I like MMOs and have been enjoying messing around in DCUO (villains called Dark Cherub, General Crank, Golden Embers) and I really enjoyed my weekend with TOR giving me a near perfect fusion of KOTOR and WOW. I always join PVP servers although I rarely PVP cos I suck at it (DCUO is converting me though) and I always get frustrated by being ganked.
My XBOX gamertag is Blurter Hurter, you can usually find me playing FIFA 12 on there, it's very unfulfilling how bad I am after so many years dedicated to that stupid game.
I just finished my first year of a Bachelor of Journalism at Griffith Uni, and I have been going pretty well at it, which I am suprised at because my previous attempts at Uni resulted in me dropping out after being charged HECS fees for the semesters that I decided not to hand any work in on. I guess turning 30 looming over me in a months time has been forcing me to grow up a bit. Still, being a student means that I have plenty of time for games in between classes.
This is all kind of stream-of-conciousness stuff so I know it seems like I write pretty poorly for a B Journ student, but I couldn't be bothered going back over proof reading and refining my grammar because that would take to long and If I go into perfectionist mode my anxiety kicks in and I would probably delete everything and not get around to writing to introduce myself.... *deep breath*
If my introduction is unsatisfactory, or you would just like to know more about me, please don't hesitate to ask.
