I think the first computer game I played was one I wrote on a TRS-80. Character graphics. I think it was called "The Tholian Web". The first hacker I remember is my brother, who (with no knowledge of programming) figured out how to edit the game program so it would spew obscenities whenever I beat it. Oddly enough, I became the software geek and he became a minister. Go figger.
Hey! Barstow here, and this community looks to be a likely place to make some friends and have some fun. I've read and heartily agree with the AUP (had no idea it was illegal to advertise firearms in Melbourne) and also read the TOG FAQ. Thanks for taking the time to put all that info together.
I've done some fairly heavy game-community-type lifting in the past, managing a 'clan' web site and two game servers (along with
FreeBird and with the help of several other admins) with running stats, matches, etc. I think at one point we had some 50+ members playing both MoH:BT and CoD:UO. Great fun, but also lots of work.
I had to take a break from FPSes for a while due to some vision problems, but that's mostly cleared up now. Unfortunately, since starting to play again, I've noticed that the majority of MoH servers are pretty much either empty, rifle-only (boring, cuz I stink at rifle-only), play the same few stock maps over and over, or are loaded with cheaters. I love MoH (Liberation and Freeze-Tag, especially) but it looks like that's lost favor hereabouts. MoH:PA (like Tomb Raider:AOD) was an enormous disappointment, after all the hype and anticipation.
I'm
wayyy over 25 (AARP Lifetime Member) but still 19 at heart. Like FreeBird, I guess I like helping folks, as I really enjoy my job which is Tech. Services - mostly helping folks via phone, email or forums with tech. problems using my company's products, etc. Wife of 15 (great!) years is pursuing her Psy. D. (almost halfway there); one kid, on her way to college next year.
Not sure about which games I'll be pursuing most. I still like CoD and AA looks and sounds very interesting. I just don't own it (yet) - recommendations welcome. My online time is usu. 7-9pm (EST / GMT -5) until 'whenever' (depends) and most weekends during day or evening.
Well, that's me. Hope to connect more and more frequently after the holiday 'crazy time', but wanted to drop a note to say hello.
Cheers!
