Default Application For Membership

Hello TOG!!!

My name is Will and I am looking forward to the possibility of joining your group. As instructed, I am confirming that I am over 25, I have read, concur, agree and am happy with the contents of the TOG AUP and FAQ. As an older gamer, some of the contents were actually refreshing to find…

I have been heavily involved with the stress test and beta for D&D Online. I have already purchased my copy and can not wait to get started. I have received an email regarding the advantages that will be given to those players that are able to log in and play during the two day head start for pre-orders. Those players will have their names inscribed on an in game marker and guilds formed during this time will be awarded with a special, unique helmet that grants extra health. I hope there is a TOG Division Captain that is primed to take advantage of this when it becomes available later this month and would like to join with the other TOG members to see that happen.

I am also greatly anticipating the release of Middle Earth Online! I am a HUGE Tolkien fan and MEO is going to become my new game of choice very soon I hope. I am also currently addicted to City of Villains, though I don’t get to play as often as I would like. I currently reside in San Antonio, Texas (Central Time Zone) and generally play a few evenings a week and weekends.

To share a bit about myself… I was born and grew up in and around Dallas, Texas. It’s still home to me. I grew up on table-top role-playing games. As I matured, my gaming tastes evolved to several live-action systems. As I got older still, my tastes changed again to electronic gaming (live-combat gaming systems are definitely for the young).

Work and family moved me to San Antonio. I was a Life Insurance Administrator and landed a job leading the Insurance Department for Citibank in San Antonio. I had a nice salary, team of people that reported directly to me, the whole deal… and was completely miserable 99% of the time. That kind of work just sucked the life right out of me and after about five or so years of it I had reached my limit.

I had always enjoyed playing video games and learned of a graduate program being developed at Southern Methodist University in Dallas to build them. So, after discussing the opportunity with my beautiful wife (who just wanted me to be happy again, God bless her…) I quit and left it all behind to begin working on a whole new life. I am currently working on obtaining all of those pre-requisites necessary to apply to SMU’s Guildhall and could not get more happy and excited about life if I tried to!

I married the most beautiful woman on the planet in 1996. A decade later, she is still the center of my universe. We’ve added a few planets to our universe since we first met at Dallas Fantasy Faire, a gaming convention held many years ago. I have two beautiful boys now. Our first is nine now and our newest is just nine months old.

My wife and I are both gamers (again with the thanking of God) and have enjoyed several MMORPGs over the years. In no particular order, we have both held accounts in the past for World of Warcraft, City of Heroes (and Villains), and Star Wars Galaxies. We’ve enjoyed playing but have had difficulty joining any group for all the reasons you list as benefits for joining TOG. We enjoy gaming as a hobby… not as a lifestyle choice. We have very fulfilling, enjoyable lives that we enhance with our online gaming. But for most of the groups we have run into… if we were not able to dedicate a large chunk of our lives to leveling as quickly as humanly possible (which to them equates to hardwiring into the game 24/7) then we were just slowing the group down or getting in their way of becoming L33t! We have even been willing to dedicate a few nights a week to be our “gaming nights” but it was just perceived as lack of enthusiasm by the “kids” that just don’t ever seem to log out.

So, I currently am not a member of another community, team or clan and wish to find out if TOG might be just the place for me. I am looking forward to finding some new, more mature friends that would love to schedule some gaming sessions and have a blast!

Thanks for your time and I look forward to hearing back from you!

Take care,

Will

Default Thank you!

wow. What a welcome... and no I don't mean World of Warcraft! lol

Remember when "wow" was just a happy little expression? oh well...

I can't tell you how good it made me feel to see so many people taking a moment just to welcome me into the fold. Just confirms what I felt initially about this group...

I have found a new home.

Looking forward to getting to know you and yours soon all,

Will a.k.a. Hardrock
