Default Greetings from the Atari and 300baud modem days!

Hello, my name is Greg as I've read the AUP and TOG which all flows good with me. I'm a 37 year old who has been programming about 20 years now. I'm fortunate to have been around when you could type in a chat room faster than your modem could keep up with!

I started on an Atari 400 and after wearing out the membrane keyboard moved to an Atari 800 with that wonderful plug in basic cartridge. After my mom unplugged the computer while she was vacuuming it was time to get a tape backup. Then when my brother decided to record halfway through my program a message indicating how funny it would be to say some stupid stuff garbling my code in memory, I moved on to a 8" floppy drive...wow! The world of using the phone line and 300bps modem communicating to others far far away...incredible. Did Atari have an auto-answer modem in those days...no! But no problem, hook up a relay to short out the firing button pins on the joystick port with a nice loop routine in basic and bingo, go answer the phone!

Not only could you chat with someone else, but there were some BBS's that had some MUD text games to play. Remember Zork? Those were the times you still rolled D&D dice/paper and even got in some RISK Friday and Saturday on late night sleep-overs. The computer simply made you even more an elite geek.

Fast forward to the years of Ultima Online which my first MMORPG. After 6 months of punishment loosing all those arrows you made because of server crashed there was this 3D game coming out called Everquest. That was the beginning of real life spilling over into a virtual world. The end of the beginning, beginning of the end...well you know what I mean.

Since 1999 I've helped run a guild in Everquest which is still alive today and I've moved on to World of Warcraft which has been another successful guild blasting through Molten Core and knocking on the doors of BWL.

My interest and committment for my next MMORPG will be Vanguard which will be many years to come.

Instead of starting my own guild again that requires a lot of time leading, I'm looking at ToG as a guild that may be in that game. I have others my age who will probably follow as well that are mature, professional players that love to tackle difficult encounters which require a guild to do so.

So here I am looking for other mature, courteous and professional players with the hopes to make even more friends.

Sincerely,

-Greg

Welcome to TOG Habanero.

If we're not already in the game then someone will be shortly. There probably isn't a game out there that we don't have at least 1 TOG playing (some even play the Sims ).

One of the admins will be along shortly to wave their admin wand.
