I am a game researcher. I know that sounds funny, but it's true. I work for universities doing video game research and teaching courses in video game design. I write papers about game culture. I design experimental games and produce game conferences. Here is one I produced in April:
http://www.isr.uci.edu/events/massive/ My specialty area is massively multiplayer games. In a prior iteration I designed multiplayer games and virtual reality for the theme park industry.
I recently finished a study of refugees from the MMOG Uru (based on Myst) who immigrated to other games and virtual worlds when the game closed in February of 2004. In doing this research, I became aware of a large population of gamers who fall loosely into the 'Baby Boomer' generation (which I do as well.) I am also interested in inter-game immigration and multi-game guilds.
I would like to join TOG because I would like to enlist you, its members, in my research on Baby Boomer gamers. In addition to doing game research, I also play games recreationally, although I tend to jump around a lot, unless of course I am doing a study. If I have people to play with, I will tend to play a game more often (so TOGers could easily lure me to spend more time in any number of games.)
Currently I spend most of my time in There.com, but I have also been playing Guild Wars and Puzzle Pirates. On occasion, I also play World of Warcraft (I have avatars on Thunderhorn and Hellscream), and I went through a somewhat avid City of Heroes. My main avatar in all these locales is called Artemesia or some variant thereof.
Oh, I'm 44 years old, and currently live in Southern California, though I will be moving to Georgia in a couple of months. As you can probably tell from my nic, I am female.
