(Or a treatise on the Night habits of Goblins)
*******
Nichevo's wandering as always brought him to his favourite spot in Astranaar. Resisting an urge to check the Astranaar barrel for the ever elusive Goblin who apparently lived there, Nichevo spied the crazy Troll fishing by the lake. The Troll with amazing sense of perception held his finger up to his lips indicating both silence to Nichevo, and also that he knew Nichevo was there. Nichevo watched the duel between Troll and fish with avid fascination. "Perhaps if Nichevo was in Elf form he could catch fishes like this too?" he thought, "Silly Nichevo! Why catch fishes when you can steal them! Besides Elves have no tails and can fall over easily." Nichevo agreed heartily with his own train of thought.
The Troll finally hooked the graceful adversary and reeled him into the bank and his awaiting troll paws. The Fishertroll bent to scoop his catch and pat Nichevo on the head simultaneously. Nichevo looked up at the Troll with his best Kitten impression.
"Dis wan dere is fur jah, cat mon." The smiling Troll said flipping the fish into Nichevo's awaiting jaw.
Nichevo grinned and chewed on the fish. Even if the Troll didn’t give him some of his catch he probably wouldn’t tell the Sentinels about the strange Fishertrolls presence. Nichevo liked the crazy Troll even if he couldn’t understand a word he said.
As always Nichevo's eyes drifted back to the barrel.
"Hmm, maybe just a little peak" Nichevo thought.
The Troll began whistling quietly and cast his line into the lake again looking for more sport. The chill of the season kept the air fresh as the weak winter sun lovingly removed the bite from the cold air.
Nichevo looked around, all was quiet, with a quick lick of the Fishertroll’s paw in thanks, Nichevo sneaked off into the trees and began circling towards the barrel.

Nichevo's heart pounded.
"Maybe Nichevo find you today Goblin." he whispered hopefully to the breeze.
Darting to another bush behind the barrel, Nichevo peered round to look inside. His keen eyes began picking out the rough detail of the hewn wood.
Empty...
Nichevo sighed.
"Maybe if Nichevo hang around here, Nichevo see the Goblin come home?" he thought, not for the first time.
Nichevo crouched down in the undergrowth and began the long wait during the few hours till dusk. The red light filtered through the Ashenvale trees, Nichevo's nose was cold but his back was warmed by the fading winter sun.
No Goblin...
The Azerothean sun finished its daily journey as Elune took her rightful place silvery white in the night, like a beautifully round shiny fish, swimming slowly across the sea that is the sky.
No Goblin...
Nichevo shivered in the cold, burying himself further into the leaves. His night sensitive eyes trained on the barrel, never straying from it for the hours of the night.
No Goblin...
Much later Nichevo awoke shivering. The sun had just about breasted the trees and the morning dew lay thick on the green floor of Ashenvale.
Nichevo rubbed his overly sensitive nose with his paw, realising he could not smell the scents of the forest as well as normal.
"Hmm..." he thought looking over. Had the barrel moved? He was sure it had, must have, just an inch maybe...
"Silly Nichevo! You fell asleep and missed him!"
Nichevo's stomach growled, "Poor hungry Nichevo!" he exclaimed lifting himself from the wet grass. Nichevo made his way over to the bridge and the possibility of some relief for his stomach. The Sentinel on morning watch usually kept a fish on standby for him.
Nichevo greeted the sentinel with a nod as he approached.
"Nichevo! Please tell me you haven't you been staring at that barrel again all night?" the Sentinel asked concerned.
"Would Nichevo do that? No!" Nichevo lied.
The sentinel sighed, "No fishes for the lying cat!" she said matter-of-factly.
Nichevo pouted.
"Ok, Nichevo was. Nichevo know you told him not to be so silly, but ... but ... a Goblin does live in that barrel, Nichevo has it on good authority, and Nichevo will catch that Sneaky Goblin!" Nichevo declared shaking his paw at the silent barrel. "You hear me Goblin! Nichevo catch you! Then we’ll see who’s sneakiest!" Nichevo shouted, still shaking his paw at the unconcerned barrel.
"Oh silly Nichevo! Here I have a fish for you, now promise me you'll stop this foolishness before you catch your death! Goblins do NOT live in barrels." she laughed.
"Nidevo promidth" Nichevo agreed, for the sake of the shiny fish.
The sentinel sighed unconvinced and tossed the fish to Nichevo before she tried to press her case further, as she knew Nichevo was always easier to convince when he had a fish in his mouth.
"Why do you continue to stay out at night and stare at that old rotten barrel when you know it’s empty?" the sentinel questioned.
Nichevo felt the cold itch inside his nose, his face twitching in preparation for the event about to occur as he looked up readying his reply to the Sentinel.
"Durioudthidy!" sneezed the cat.
