SUMMARY OF THIS POST

There are three (3) Levels of Membership to The Older Gamers Forum.

The first two levels are necessary before you can enter our private forum and request ingame membership.

Level 1 - General visitor
- No age restrictions
- You are a friendly visitor from another guild wishing to make contact with TOG for any and all games.

(NB: We have many gaming "couples" join us in Guild wars, but you MUST apply in SEPARATE POSTS in the Barracks for Level 2 Member Access, even if you are using a shared online Guild Wars gaming account.)

Level 2 - Full TOG Member (25+ years & must post in Barracks a message stating that you Accept FAQ & AUP and you are 25+ years of chronological age).

The Barracks (20 Viewing)
Potential new members need post here!
- You do not need to leave your existing Guild Wars Guild.

- You can now visit, read and post in our Private Forum and interact with like minded gamers across many different games, including our Private Guild Wars forum.

Level 3 - Ingame member of an TOG Guild for your Guild wars account and associated characters.
- You must resign from your current guild to be able to receive an invitiation
- You can request an account invite from one of our four ingame guilds (TOG1 - The, TOG2 - Temple, TOG3 - Templars, TOG4 - Tribe) IN OUR Guild Wars PRIVATE FORUM.

Guild Wars: The Hall of Heroes (Private) (7 Viewing)
Where our Morale is always +10%

In game account applications must be done in TOG Guild Wars (Private Forum) which can only be entered after you are upgraded to Level 2 Full TOG membership.

For step by step instructions and general information and Q&A about membership, read on ....

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
INTRODUCTION
First, welcome to our doorstep, which I assume is a result of you reading about us on Guild War's Guild of the Week for 14th November 2006.
GuildWars.com: Community: Guild of the Week: The Older Gamers
To join TOG, you should be aware there are a three levels of participation.
Level 1 - General visitor
Level 2 - Full TOG Member
Level 3 - Ingame member of an TOG Guild
Only the last level (Level 3) results in "ingame" membership of one of the four TOG guilds in Guild wars by your Guild Wars online playing account.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++
STEP 1. LEVEL 1 VISITOR OF TOG - REGISTERED PUBLIC VISITOR ACCESS ACCOUNT TO TOG GENERAL FORUMS
This is the first level where anyone regardless of age can post and read messages in the Public Access forums and send Private Messages to people in TOG.
a. Click to enter the general public chat forum
The Barracks (42 Viewing)
General public chat forum. Potential new members: post here!
b. Read the general FAQ at the top of
Sticky: Potential new members: Please READ THIS BEFORE POSTING.
GhostDog
c. Verifying Email to new registered account.
Create a new account on this Website.
When you filled in the account application form you had to specify a valid E-mail address.
Check that E-mail box for an automated message from the Forum requesting you click on the link to validate the E-mail address to the account created.
d. Also, take a moment to access the User Control panel
http://www.theoldergamers.com/forum/usercp.php
and fill in details of your Location (Town, Country [UK, Australia, USA]) and attach an avatar and signature for display on the forums.
NB. Anyone regardless of age can create an account and access these public areas.
YOU DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO PRIVATE FORUMS LIKE THE GUILDWARS PRIVATE FORUM
SO YOU ARE NOT YET ABLE TO REQUEST AN INVITATION TO JOIN A TOG GUILD (NB: We have 3 spread across the in game Euro and American Servers).
Clicking on links to enter these forums or links to messages in these forums will be blank. THIS IS NOT AN ERROR as you are NOT a registered full member of TOG, only a general public visitor.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++
STEP 2. LEVEL 2 MEMBERSHIP OF TOG - GAIN TOG FULL MEMBER ACCESS TO TOG PRIVATE FORUMS FOR ALL GAMES.
Once you have gotten used to reading and interacting with TOG in the public areas, you may wish to move in to the game specific areas to discuss your games with like minded individuals.
(NB: We have many gaming "couples" join us in Guild wars, but you MUST apply in SEPARATE POSTS in the Barracks for Level 2 Member Access, even if you are using a shared online Guild Wars gaming account.)
a. You must be 25 years or older in chronological age.
If you are not 25 or over, there are plenty of other guilds who share our philosophy and are relatively mature in behaviour if not in age.
We assume you are mature enough not to lie about your age to gain entry.
Lying and cheating is one of the things that you agreed not to do in the FAQ and AUP.
You need to state in your post you are are 25 or over in chronological age in your post as not everyone displays or even completes their birthdate in their online application form or in their account profile when they request visitor access to the TOG Forums.
Don't worry about being called "ancient" as I think our oldest member is 66 or there abouts.
b. Ideally, in the Account Creation stage above, select an account name similar to an in game name. But anything that isn't currently registered or contravene the FAQ and AUP will do.
Ideally using one of your "In Game Names" IGN or a variant of such to help us put a name to a face so to speak.
If you are new to guild wars, then a consistent naming convention for your toons beginning with your first one will ensure your fellow Guildies recognise you even when you start new characters.
For example, Ozbrat, Vice Division Captain and Leader of the Temple of Gamers uses "Skye" as the surname of all his characters.
c. Post in the Barracks (Public Forum) a request for full admission to TOG as a new member to TOG with a specific statement indicating
- We have many gaming couples in Guild wars, but each person must apply individually with a separate post to the Barracks forum even if they are sharing characters within the same online Guild Wars gaming account.
i. Your chronological age (we don't measure mental ) is over 25
ii. Confirm you have READ and ACCEPT our Frequently Asked Question (FAQ) and Acceptable Use Policy (AUP).
The bit about acceptance of our FAQ and AUP is the most important part.
Putting Guildwars in the subject header of your initial post is more likely to attract the attention of a Guild wars officer like myself and welcoming greetings from other TOG Guild Wars players.
d. If you stated that you are old enough and agree to our rules an admin (eg. CannonFodda or Anisha) will validate your access to the forums, and reply to your post stating you are now a full member of TOG and can gain access to most of the private members forums to read and post message to other TOGs.
Remember you did use a "real" email address hence you will receive a notification of any replies to your post with messages of greetings from your fellow TOG as well as the Admin's confirmation of your upgraded status to full member.
NB: The links listed below are only accessible to you after your account as been granted access to our private forums.
HENCE PLEASE WAIT FOR STEP 2.d. (ie. Admin approval) BEFORE COMPLAINING THAT SOMETHING IS BROKEN.
e. Now visit our TOG Guild Wars Private Forum
Guild Wars: The Hall of Heroes (Private) (7 Viewing)
Where our Morale is always +10%
So now you can post questions and replies to any topic you want to discuss in Guildwars as well as sign up to partipate in any scheduled events.
This is the place to have some intelligent (and not so intelligent but never rude) discussions about the good and bad things about Guildwars.
There are a whole lot of stickies at the top of the forum for you to read up on to learn about configuring team speak so you can chat to other people and other playing tips as well as the sign up threads for membership of one of the three TOG Guilds spanning both the European and American in game servers.
The reason we have three guilds is there is a hard limit of a maximum of 100 people per guild.
With Alliance chat and the international servers, you can always meet up and talk to people from the other two guilds regardless of which guild you join.
f. Remaining with your in game guild but talking to TOG Guild Wars players.
At this point, you can read and post in our private forum and remain in your existing guild while interacting with a diverse and mature range of fun loving Guild Wars players.
Membership ingame is NOT essential, but the logical next step to take, which is ...
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++
STEP 3. LEVEL 3 INGAME MEMBERSHIP OF TOG - REGISTERING YOUR GUILD WARS PLAYING ACCOUNT WITH ONE OF THE THREE TOG GUILD WARS GUILDS
PLEASE READ THIS POST FIRST!
Sticky: *** NEW PLAYERS START HERE ***
TwystTye
This post provided details of the current leadership and names of our three ingame TOG Guild Wars Guilds.
a. Linking your account to a TOG Guild is your decision
You are now a member of TOG, but are not yet a member of our Guild in the game.
At this stage, we are not sure which server or time zones you are from so we need you to post which server and times you regularly play so that you are more likely to be able to meet your fellow guild mates.
The bulk of the players logon during their evenings, but we do have shift workers who do their gaming in different time zones or for other reasons play odd hours (ie. after midnight when the kids/spouse are fast asleep or in the morning before work).
b. So the next step is for you to choose from one of the FIVE ingame TOG guilds to join.
The Older Gamers (TOG1 Central) consists primarily of North American players who tend to play mostly in the Central evening times.
Temple of Older Gamers (TOG2 Aust) consists primarily of Asian and Australian evening time players.
Templars of Older Gamers (TOG3 Atlantic) consists primarily of North American players who tend to play mostly in the Eastern/Atlantic evening hours.
Tribe of Older Gamers (TOG4 Pacific) consists primarily of North American players who tend to play mostly in the Mountain and Pacific evening times.
Tower of Older Gamers (TOG5 Europe) consists primarily of European players who tend to play mostly in the GMT afternoon and evening hours.
c. Post a message in the sign up threads for ONE of the FIVE ingame TOG guilds.
(NB: This is different to your initial post in the Barracks (Public Forum) as this is only accessible by those with access to our private forum and is the one used to invite your character and account into the guild)
a. Which Chapters of Guildwars you can access with your account
b. List at least one Ingame name (Check your spelling please!!)
c. What days and times you are likely to be playing
d. What level characters are you currently playing.
e. Any game goals you are aiming to achieve (ie. Protector, Cartographer) and
activities you would like to undertake with our guild (ie. Player Versus Player, Elite Missions, Farming, Bonus Hunting, Skill capping).
f. Do you want to do PvP, PvE or Both?
NB: You MUST resign from your existing Guild before you can request membership of TOG because we can only send invitations to people NOT currently registered with a guild at the time we send you an invitation to join.
NB: ALL YOUR CHARACTERS FROM THE SAME ONLINE GUILDWARS PLAYING ACCOUNT WILL BE TAGGED AS A MEMBER OF THE TOG GUILD YOU REQUESTED MEMBERSHIP
When you receive your invitation you will receive a message when you first login in Guildwars.
Type G to bring up the guild screen and click Accept and you will be a member of one of the TOG Guild Wars Guilds.
When you first login, please type a hello on the Alliance chat and I am sure a friendly guildie will say hello and offer to give you a hand on any mission if they are not currently busy.
We prefer Alliance chat to Guild Chatto ensure that you are heard by members of all three of our guilds.
This maximises your chance to team up with a fellow TOGger who is currently logged online no matter what time of the day or night you are starting your gaming session.
d. Finally, Read our FAQ to become familiar with our Voice Communications settings (ie. Team Speak) and other stuff from Guild Wars Division FORUM MENU & FAQ/LINKS
___________________________________________
NOTE: INACTIVE PLAYERS ARE KICKED FROM AN INGAME GUILD
Due to the hard limit of a maximum of 100 members in a guild, we kick any member of the guild who has not logged in at least once a month.
This ensures we have enough room to invite new people to the guild which tends quickly reach the 100 player limit, especially when new chapters are released.
If you are dropped due to inactivity, you are more than welcome to repost and request an invite of one of your characters back into the guild when you have more time to login and play a bit more frequently than once every couple of months.
You are always welcome back when you have more time to play.
Just repost an invite to one of the three TOG guilds to get a new in game request.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++
STEP 4. LEARNING MORE ABOUT TOG GUILD WARS GUILDS
Q1. I am a member of an existing guild, why join TOG Guildwars in game?
A1. You can stop at the second step above and participate in our community by just posting in our private forum and continue to game with your existing guild.
However, you will be depriving yourself of the opportunity to meet and interact with people who love to just group and play with other people.
Remember those times where you want to get a mission done and the server is empty?
Or even worse be forced to join the Pick Up Group (or Publically Unwashed Gamers ;P) from Hell!
Those (PUGs) filled with immature, weak willed players who are hell bent on dragging the whole team to their doom or leaching a free ride during the mission or just leaving mid game when the slightest thing goes wrong!
With a quick message to our TOG alliance channel you are more likely than not to be able to get a few TOG members to help you with the quest AND bring along an appropriate character to complete the team mix.
Even primary missions that are generally considered difficult or impossible to complete with PUGs, such as Thunderhead Keep (Tyria) or Raisa Palace (Cantha) can be completed quickly and successfully with your fellow guild mates.
Also, its great to be part of an experienced and skillful team who know how to do the elite missions such as Tombs of thr Primeval King (Tyria) or Urgoz Warren (Cantha), etc and can teach you to complete them too!
No longer will you be at the mercy of those scammers who try to get you to pay for a run to someplace or begging a monk to join your team.
Although we don't have dedicated running teams we will certainly join in and help fight you to wherever and whatever you want to do (Such as skill capping in the Fire Islands (Tyria)).
We have volunteers who have builds which will help you get to some places which people are trying to charge you for completion (ie. Desert outpost running, etc.)
Q2. I am new to Guild wars and have yet to join a Guild. So what can TOG do for me?
A2. TOG prides itself on helping people new to Guildwars overcome the learning curve which faces new players to this wonderfully rich and complex world.
a. Free friendly tips and hints
For example, once you have access to our private forum read the following post where TOG Guild members discuss the not that obvious or poorly documented features of the game:
No stupid questions ... just stupid documentation.
http://www.theoldergamers.com/forum/...ad.php?t=53538
b. Access to all the NPC merchants in our Guild Halls
One of the most useful services available as a TOG Guild member in contrast to being a guildless lone wolf is access to fully equipped Guild Halls.
No longer do you have to bear the annoying noise of traders spamming the open channel flogging goods or be interrupted by parties trying to form a team while you sort out through your booty after finishing a mission.
Just type G to bring up the Guild Screen and click the Guild Hall button to visit the:
1. The Older Gamers (Guild 1) Tyrian styled "Halls of the Dead" Guild Hall.
2. Temple of Older Gamers (Guild 2) Factions styled "Meditation" Guild Hall.
3. Templars of Older Gamers (Guild 3) Elonian styled Guild Hall.
There you can do your "house keeping" with access to ALL the NPC vendors in all three halls. (Xunai Storage, Merchant, Skill Trainer, Rune Trader, Scroll Trader, Dye Trader, Weapon Smith, Material Trader, Rare Material Trader, Balthazar Priest, Alliance Battle NPCs) in one convenient location.
c. A quiet place ingame to get away from the "lagging" crowds
A haven from the lag of over populated towns and noise of traders you get trying to access these same NPCs in major player centres like Lions Arch (Tyria) or Kaineng City (Cantha) or Kamaden (Elona).
Guild Hall is also a great place for you to meet with trust worthy guildies to help shift items between your multiple Guild wars accounts.
Its also the usual place we gather to form our teams before going to the town in the international district to commence the mission.
d. Free "common" materials and dyes to members
We also maintain a bank of common materials and dyes which are free for use by TOG Guild members wishing to buy new armour but haven't yet been able to collect enough common materials to craft new armour and then colour it to suit.
Q3. Are you a Player versus Environment (PvE) only guild?
A3. Short Answer is no, we cater for Player versus Player (PvP) and Group versus Group (GvG) play as well as Player versus Environment (PvE).
TOG initially started as a Battlefield 1942 clan, so many members initially joined (such as myself) to play first person shooters with like minded individuals.
Guildwars and other MMORPGs are a change of pace which many TOG players indulge with in parallel within their limited amount of gaming time.
You will find many current TOG Call of Duty, Battlefield 2, EVE Online players dropping their rifle/blaster to pick up a sword in Guildwars.
On the whole the majority of players are doing Player versus Environment simply because in real life, demands of other TOG Gaming teams make it tough to get together for specific times and events to duke it out with other teams when they are also playing FPS with other divisions within TOG.
However, we have a small and growing group of TOG players who meet for our weekly PvP and GvG sessions as well as regular weekly PvE sessions.
As many of our long standing players have completed most of our PvE orientated goals, we are now moving to the next logical step of utilising our fine weapons, armour and broad range of elite skills garnered from hundreds of hours of exploring all three continents to set up PvP character builds capable of taking on other teams and giving as good as we get.
If you are reluctant to try PvP because you fear being annihilated and ridiculed by some wet nosed little "d00dz", fear not as TOG can introduce you to the art of Guild Wars PvP in the company of many skilled and experienced players.
Q4. Which of the three TOG Guilds should I join?
A4. Once you have joined one of the TOG guilds, you are free to resign and post to join one of the other two TOG Guild Wars Guilds.
Switching to a different TOG guild could result in you finding more TOG players online at the time you play. Many play in the evenings, so sticking to the server which matches this peak playing time is a good start.
As we have many mature gamers who are retired and shift workers, you will often find someone online at any time of the day or night. It is not unusual to see people logging on and typing in chat "Good morning" just as you are logging off for the night.
So just sign up and play for awhile. Eventually, you will start to meet and play with a group of regular guild mates who will match your own playing times.
Q5. I need more information about TOG Guild wars guilds, Who can I talk to?
A5. If you have any further questions, feel free to private message any of the guild leaders via this forum or whisper ingame to their toon:
1. TOG Guild 1 (The) Leader - Tywst Tye's ingame toon "Mrs Deathscythe"
2. TOG Guild 2 (Temple) Leader - Ozbrat's ingame toon "Ember Skye"
3. TOG Guild 3 (Templars) Leader - Madpiper's ingame toon "Garvin Femblenook".
4. TOG Guild 4 (Tribe) Leader - Voidstar's ingame toon "Voivod Vlad Dracula".
5.TOG Guild 5 (Tower) Leader - Coelbrenn's ingame toon "Coel Brenn".
But the best way is to get answers is to post in our private forums (once you have Level 2 access) which will garner the attention and answers from the whole Guild wars community in TOG.
So for all you new members of TOG, please visit our private forum once you have been granted full access to complete your membership of our guild and get your character adventuring with your new friends.
May your morale always be +10%
Thanks Ace for providing this guide to our incoming new Guild Wars mates - time to bump it!
I am the Division Captain over both TOG Guild Wars guilds, soon to be three guilds, and I am also the guild leader of the TOG guild which primarily plays during the North American evening play times. Ozbrat is my Vice Division Captain, and guild leader of the second TOG guild.
Ace thoughtfully provided the links to each guild's sign-ups pages above - this is where you'll go to finalize your in-game membership (the last of the red tape - I promise!). But remember - you will only have access to view those forums AFTER you have been approved here in the barracks by an admin - they will appear empty until you are officially "TOGgerized."
For those of you on the Northern side of the hemisphere (or anywhere, but you're more likely to catch me in-game North Am evenings), feel free to PM me in-game as well, Celeste Driezon (alts listed in signature), or any of the officers listed for the appropriate guild.
Lastly, let me emphasize what Ace has mentioned above:
Quote:
So for all you new members of TOG, please visit our private forum once you have been granted full access to complete your membership of our guild.
The GW forum will be your home away from home for the guild. We look forward to seeing you there and getting your info so we can invite you to the appropriate guild!
Default TOG Guild Wars Guild
I am having trouble getting into the GUild Wars Forum. I have only recently joined TOG but have received all the e-mails that are indicated that I will receive when I join. I am playing GW with another TOG member who is in the TOG Guild but I am unable to join this Guild. Could someone advise me what to do?
Thanks
The only thing I can think of is that when you tried to access the GW Forums you might not have been a member yet?
As per the final step in the registration process, you need to decide which of the three guilds you wanted to join and post in that thread.
I have now sent an invite to your ingame character "Dhar Crimson" based on the post you made yesterday in the Guild 2 in game application thread.
Hence ingame membership invite to Temple of Older Gamers (Guild 2) could not have occurred any sooner.
The only thing I could think have delayed your invite were that you posted in the Guild 1 and 3 recruitment threads which are handled by other Guild Wars Guild Officers.
Welcome and I hope you and your friend enjoy your time with us.
